SSE for just over 6 months now -
6 openreach engineers visits of which some were brilliant while the others I can only describe as ignorant and negligent.
Using the Wi-Fi on the tecchnicolour router showed absolutely useless wi-fi range and did not find a guest network which was fixed by replacing with an Asus router.
The broadband speed was silly slow each evening at the start so I accepted a different connection - This provided a dynamic IP Address which enabled much better speeds by rebooting to get different links which turned out to be in different parts of the country. This left an inconsistent service which is not ideal.
Next was switched back to a fixed IP and a static route which was not supplied thro' BT exchange equipment causing further issues local to me <> They were then thanked for their efforts and in response to this they make an instant free termination of the contract.
Then was explained that SSE had not expected such a high take-up of the broadband so they had and were in process of extending the capacity which they bought/used and that they would switch the local equipment route back to BT and would appreciate my feedback once this had been completed.
AFTER 6 weeks
End result - Not using their router and achieving 55>60 download and 14>15 upload.
Pro's <> Very good price
Con's <> Can be over 3 hours to get thro' on the phone and Calls back are not always made.

I'll be honest, it was a leap of blind faith switching to SSE given the hate seen online but I'm very glad I did.
D/L ~50MBps pretty constant 24/7, certainly no buffering horror stories that I've seen elsewhere, U/L ~13MBps, decent.
£30 a month cheaper than my Virgin service with comparable upload speed, no frills, no unnecessary bells or whistles (don't think I even got an email but that's not a problem), just a good solid consistent internet service.
All set up within a few weeks (inc. engineer visit) of ordering, customer helpline answered promptly and always helpful when needed, really had 0 issues.
Props to SSE, recommended.

We were due to be connected on 30th November and now 13 days later we still have no broadband. Shocking customer service. Will be switching as soon as possible.

I moved from Immediately, which was a great service but became too expensive at £37 per month. I received the router and plugged it in the same as my Plusnet box through the openreach box. My speeds varied drastically and I wasn't at all happy. I found out I could miss out the openreach box and connect the fibre phoneline direct into the sse technicolour box by setting it up for VSL. Immediately saw a big improvement in speed and am now happier with SSE

Have been with SSE less than a month, So far had a whole week with no internet at all, SSE then had an engineer sent over, who fixed it straight away. However broadband speed between about 17:00 until about 22:00 makes it almost unuseable. We have 2 phones and 2 computers connected to it in the house, but even if we switch wireless off on everything but one device, it is still so slow that you can rarely watch a video without constant bufferring. Not what I expected from 'ultra fast fibre broadband'
The customer service I have received from them, has been brilliant thus far, certainly can't fault that in anyway.

Day 1 - connected phone 1st thing - broadband connected by 6pm. Router setup easy:- admin and admin for access to router
all wifi working no problems speed 34Mbps so far - paid for 68 but this is fine for me. Much better than EE which was 0-3 in a constant cycle. So far, so good.

Had to take advantage of the free SSE super fast broadband. Switched from BT Infinity.
Router arrived about 10 days before connection day.
Connection day today and followed simple set up guide.
Router connected fine to all devices in the house.
I have a problem with Sky Q On Demand services but I had the very same problem with BT so the problem probably lies with the Sky Q set up.
Download speeds averaging around 24
Upload speeds averaging around 11
The above are about 30% better than what I had previously been getting with BT.
Overall - so far, so good.

Switched to SSE superfast (39Mb) fibre just over a month ago after suffering appalling speeds (less than 100kb on peak) and zero customer service from Post Office Broadband. Nearly 18 months of trying to get them to look properly at the problem resulted in no change, hence the switch.
I was a little apprehensive given some of the poor reviews that SSE have got in the past but, at £21 p/m for fibre + phone + anytime calls it seemed worth a punt - they could hardly be worse than the Post Office!
The router arrived in plenty of time for the switch date and, by the time we got up the phone had switched but no broadband. The fibre finally went live at around 4:30pm on the date we'd been given which seems ok seeing as we were switching from copper to fibre. No engineers visit was needed, we just plugged in and waited for it to connect. Couldn't have been easier!
Since then we've had consistent speeds of between 36Mb and 38Mb as measured by testmy.net during peak and off peak hours, with average download at 36.8Mb/s. Uploads are pretty consistent in the 6 - 7 Mb range, which is plenty for our needs.
We don't use Netflix or catch-up TV but on video streaming from youtube and a couple of less known film sites we've had no trouble at all with two devices streaming simultaneously in different rooms at the same time as browsing. In fact, running a speed test while also streaming 2 480p videos still gives consistent 30Mb+ results, so plenty of safety margin.
One thing we have found is that none of our devices can handle 720p HD reliably - the connection is faster than our aging laptops can get the picture onto the screen!
It's still early days but, so far, SSE have more than delivered on what we'd hoped consistently and without fail.

Switch went smoothly, speeds much the same as my previous 2 suppliers (TalkTalk and BT), so far impressive results at half the price. Supplied modem was pretty bad - especially wifi. Switched to my own Negear D6400 VDSL2 Modem Router with big improvements in line speed and WiFi performance.

Called up on the 14th to take advantage of the free broadband offer. Was told someone will call me back later to give me the offer and take it further. No calls a week later. Phoned them up and found out there was no record of my call and will not honour the deal. Avoid...

I have swapped from my BT infinity service. Have been with SSE for 2 months now. The switch went on smoothly. My download speed is the same more or less as SSE is using the same line as BT. Have not contacted Customer Service yet as there has not been any need. Great Value for next 18 months.

Today is the first day of my broadband with SSE. Am I impressed? Definitely not! Did they tell me that they did not supply an email service? No. Did they tell me that they don't answer their customer services line within a reasonable time? No. Here I am on day one, waiting for customer services to answer the phone. It is now 7.10 p.m. and I have been waiting since 6.10 p.m. and listening to music and a prerecorded voice saying 'Thank you for your patience, your call will be answered as s soon as possible.' BEWARE!!!

I was already on Fibre broadband so all SSE had to do was organise a changeover to their service, and they managed that ok. However, there was incomplete information in their "welcome pack" - Router login in password and how to get their antivirus software which I had thought was inclusive. So I emailed their customer services and had an acknowledgement, but no answer over 5 days so emailed customer services again, who this time asked for more information- before completely ignoring me again. Hence in 11 days I have had no answer to my simple questions!
I guess I now have to stop my direct debit and put them in breach of contract, but it wouldnt be so difficult if OFCOM did their job properly and actually regulated such internet service providers!

Router arrived well ahead of switchover and after the pre-warned 10 minute wait to get it to activate, all was well. Internet speed currently the same as the old BT Infinity router, being out in the sticks I didn't expect anything amazing. Few issues setting up wired network devices, but after changing things about with IP addresses it all settled and the speed is comparable to the much more expensive BT Infinity 1

Switched from BT to SSE and halved our bill. We switched at the end of September and all has been well. We get 70+mbps regularly, on iPad and iPhone, but lower on laptop on wifi. The only thing we had to do was to buy a wifi booster for the sitting room, but that was paid for from the savings on our bill. we only contacted SSE once and had no problems with CS. Overall we're happy. We have fibre here in superfast Cornwall.

Was with EE on non-fiber. Kept disconnecting and terrible hour long calls to fix. Switch to optic SSE, no problems at all, getting advertised speeds and no drop outs whatsoever. Very happy and it is cheaper than EE as well. Set up was very easy.

It's the same old con. Advertising super fast broadband and giving 3.75-Mb/s instead of 45-Mb/s. If you go to money saving expert they have a free complaint tool called "How to complain about your broadband provider" and they will take your case to the ombudsman for you if it's not rectified by SSE as they are accountable for false advertising. God bless and don't give up.

Trying to set up a phone connection with SSE took the completion of two online forms ( which say they will get in touch within 48hrs - nothing back from them after 3 weeks), and 3 telephone calls lasting 37min, 48min and 58 mins, as I was having to call from an international line this was not good - I was told they couldn't call me back on an international number so had to wait. Once you got hold of an individual they were polite but the wait is totally unacceptable.

I have been a customer of see for close to 48 hours now and have no internet or phone for the first time in ten years! Upon contacting them about this issue I was told that it wasn't their fault it was another company called Daisy something I can't remember but it turns out that they use a third party that everything goes through that they have no control over and can only email them and wait for a reply so 9am tomorrow morning I'm calling my old supplier to get put back on ...extremely poor service for this day and age !

Started of great but 2 months in and countless phone call to complain about the speed of the broadband I am wishing I had stayed with BT. Waste of time to try and cancel they will not let you even if you are not getting what you paid for. I am on a 18 month contract and now counting the days till I can get watching catch up tv when I want.

The WORST broadband experience ever. I had a persistent fault on my connection that SSE were completely incapable of dealing with. Customer services were CLUELESS, wait times were anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to speak to anyone. They NEVER called back when they said they would. Completely INCOMPETENT! Don't do it. If you do and you have a problem then good luck.

After researching SSE as a provider by asking 6 specific questions 3 months use has shown that 3 of 4 essential answers were wrong. - Use own router > Yes (but NOT if you report any faults when support is then refused).
Is traffic management expected to have any visible effects? Unlikely! (Virtually unusable every evening speed down >3 and up >2.
Was sold 76mbps down BUT local line and exchange will not support more than 40 down - not a price issue as broadband is free but I would expect accurate information after providing tel. no & postcode.
SSE added extras which were not requested and increased bill until these were cancelled.
The simple summary is - Cheap YES - not usable during peak loads - that's every evening here.
Totally incorrect information as to reason for Openreach engineer visits.
9 different customer service contacts in less than 2 months which required repeated explanation of action so far and detail of fault(s) reported.
Supplied router, if it arrives, has rubbish Wifi and no guest network which can be disastrous if you have children or visitors.
SSE should stick to power supply!

Switched from BT to save a few pounds. Very much regret it. Terrible speed, generally below 10mbps often less than 2mbps where I was gettin 60+. Impossible to watch catch up tv. It really is like going back 10 years the Speeds and stability is so bad. The router provided is awful. The range terrible. Much worse than the old home hub which must be 4 years old now. Terrible.

Switched to SSE from BT as it was less than half the price for Ultra fast fibre.
Very disappointed!
Speed tests show that I'm getting between 30 -38 MBS, but it can't even stream an HD movie.
What is the point in advertising these fast speeds if it's useless. It appears SSE throttle the hell out of the bandwidth.
I phoned their customer services who say they'll sort the problem and call back, they never do.
So nearly 2 months in, they've delayed so much that I'm past my cooling off period and will now undoubtedly have a major battle to get away from the 18 month contract, which is not fit for purpose.

I have been with SSE for a few months now, on their UltraFast Broadband and Phone for £21 a month. I should have known it was too good to believe...
Of course, the phone is fine, and at the start, the Broadband seemed great.
However, a few months in, and now the broadband speed is pants.
Ping is fine and reasonably constant at around 8-20ms.
Speed tests at bt.wholesale.com are always good, at around 73Mbps down /18Mbps up, with a ping of around 17ms.
However, real life speeds and downloads are abysmal.
I have yet to identify if there is a pattern to it as the testmy.net results over the last few days are like a "scatter graph".
I am in conversation with SSE at the moment. If it can't be resolved in the next week or so, I may have to try and weasel out of the contract, citing the service not being as advertised.
I will just add that, for me, SSE customer service has been excellent each time I have called them. I have even been called back several times.

Even with the "heavy user" fibre optic package Traffic management kills your speed at peak times making it virtually unusable if you want to download anything, I have had speeds as low as 17kb/s.

Worst broadband I've ever used. 0.5 Mb/s download, what is that about? I'm supposed to be getting 80Mb/s.
Speedtest.net says 60Mb/s, Microsoft.com download achieves 20kB/s. Traffic Shaping ultimate fail.
No thanks.

If you want customer service go elsewhere. They keep you on the phone for at least 30 minutes and then just connect to a non-existent advisor. You can hear voices in the background but it's a complete waste of time expecting anyone to talk to you. Worst company for customer service I have dealt with and their website is as useless as their advisors, if you have the patience, because that site is slower than 99% of the ones I visit. Cheap is not cheap when you get rubbish.

Avoid its criminally slow at peak times. Switched to the SSE Ultra fast fibre so I could stream HD and 4k movies and I can get 65mb/s in the middle of a weekday but at any 'peak' time I'm getting 4-10mb/s. My previous standard broadband gave a constant 17mb/s which was more usable. AVOID.
