10/10 - first class ISP - everything works fine since start date - using Unlimited Fibre plan, speed test shows 27ms ping, 36.16Mb/s download speed and 9.16 upload speed with 4 devices connected on local home network. Router is VERY GOOD with AC wifi standard, USB disk & printer sharing and many other useful functions.

Service can be slow sometimes and drop out at others. Calling customer services is too painful and they do not call you back as promised.
My main gripe however is that when your contract is at an end they do not warn you at all. They simply double the cost of your bill & take the direct debit. The call centre are not interested in complaints - they admit they do this and are sorry you are unhappy!
Devious company - would not recommend at all!

If you go with sse don't take it with you when you move, over a month to swap to the new house and had to take out a new contract rather than a direct transfer. since then the connection has been hesitant and intermittent often disconnecting and reconnecting on the wifi. was told during the move they would move my connection date forward seeing as we had been trying to get this organised for over a month before the move and only managed to speak to someone that knew what they were doing a few days before the move, but what they didn't tell me was, that was just the phone line and the internet connection would still be another 3 weeks. no point ringing up to complain, all they want is to close the complaint whether its resolved or not. I'll be looking elsewhere when the time comes, cheap tariff seem to equal cheap service. i guess you get what you pay for rather than what they promise

I am just coming to the end of my 18 months contract and it has been extraordinarily cheap for me. Superfast broadband, phone line, international calls to selected destinations - all for £24.00. I joined during their promotion when their services were apparently not up to scratch. As for the last 18 months have been a dream. I had very slow speed after 2 months, contacted them, did a few online speed checks, sent the results to them, engineer sent in within 48 hours. Problems resolved and it has been a dream dealing with them. I won’t hesitate recommending them to anyone.

SSE is cheap, has a 1 month contract and the customer service is OK inasmuch as they answer the phone fairly quickly and speak English. However, I have had recurring technical problems, the computer disconnecting from the server even though the signal is strong, dropouts when it is connected, and most of the time a broadband speed of around 0.5Mb - rather less than the "up to 17Mb" promised. SSE customer services seem to be just guessing at the cause, replacing a cable or a filter, blaming it on the line etc. all to no avail. Out of sheer frustration I am now on the verge of moving to another supplier.

My 18 month contract with SSE ultrafast fibre came to an end but the price increased to a staggering £48 i did consider switching but its to much hassle instead opted for the new monthly service same broadband but line rental only as i hardly use the landline , i still think this is an ok deal as ive always had a good speed with SSE.

So far a brilliant find and excellent surprise. I was with Virgin, paying for 200Mbps I didn't actually need. Problem was I didn't have a physical phone line at all so moving to another ISP was rather costly. Comes SSE, they said setup fee was £30. I explained I didn't have a line and they said they would send an Open Reach engineer. At not extra cost. BT usually charge about £140 for that, and SSE do it for nothing, with a 1 month rolling contract. Seriously? I thought it was too good to be true. Well, the engineer came the day I was told he would, set up the whole thing within 3 hours, then I plugged the router and within 5 minutes all lights were green and everything was working. I signed up for the Unlimited Fibre (38Mbps down, up to 10Mbps up). I've been doing speed tests regularly to see how it behaves and I'm consistently getting between 36 and 38Mbps down, and 9 to 10Mbps up.
So, I'm saving a fortune, I'm not tied to a 12 or 18 month contract, everything went super smoothly, the router is decent and service is as promised. Well impressed!

I was paying £52.49/month with BT for Anytime Calls and basic ADSL Broadband (5Mbps). Seamless change to SSE and I now pay £31/month for Anytime Calls and fibre Broadband (getting 31Mbps). No set-up charge, prices guaranteed for 3 years and no contract period - brilliant! Saving at least £773 over the 3 years. Plus very helpful call centre staff.

Internet worked "well" for 2 weeks or so, reliable but quite poor. Then all of a sudden nope. Absolutely no internet access for 3 days so far (doesn't seem like it is going to stop). Customer service seems to think we are uploading huge quantities of data, we aren't. Would never recommend this for anyone.

We moved from sky because of prices going up ,but it was the worst mistake we made , first there was a minor problem with the line , that's OK openreach sorted that out , then it was sse,s routers they can't deal with the speeds ,so they have to slow down what they give you , then all of a sudden the routers go off big red light, they say it wil, drop out from time to time , but never experienced this with sky, Not good if you are in the middle of watching something , or on a computer, doing work.
Custom services are OK , but if it goes down out of hours you deal with another company, over all if you need a decent broadband signal I personally wouldn't recommend sse broadband.

Due to superb customer service, I nearly adopted a grin and bear it approach. When the service worked - it was good! When it was sporadic (half the time) it was unusable. It did allow me to reminisce of the days where a modem sounded like a banshee-but not the best if streaming anything. Unfortunately I need reliability - or I would have stayed with them.

I was with SSE on a great deal, after 14 months we moved out of temporary homeless accommodation to our new home. SSE "couldn't" move my package but I could start a new package exactly the same for over twice the price. Obviously I didn't want that. A couple of months later I get a red bill for the service they didn't cancel, I speak to another person who says it's all cleared up and not worry. Another 4 months later I receive another "unpaid" red bill for even more money, call the 0345 number and get to speak to another chap who was rude and dismissive of the companies faults trying to blame me for them keeping my account open who cannot find any details of my previous conversations on his system who has to then go find who I spoke to before to see what has and should have been done previously. Meanwhile my previously good for a slim credit rating has been obliterated to the point I no longer qualify for a sim only contract!
These pirates need to be put out of business

10/10
I left Plusnet three months into an eighteen month contract, it was that bad they let me leave completely penalty free!
Was very dubious but signed up with SSE anyway, purley as it was on a rolling one month contract anyway.
Great decision!
Started off with the same issue I had with plusnet for three months, constantly dropping connection.
One call to SSE and it was completely fixed in 48 hours.
I spent hours and hours on the phone to plusnet, at least 15 calls, minimum of 10 live Web chats, and a huge in depth plusnet forum discussion and they couldn't resolve it.
Also even though their guaranteed minimum download speed was 8Meg lower than what everyone else quoted I'm actually getting an extra 6Meg download than I was with plusnet and talktalk before.
Very happy.

Done line test with sse to yeast for fibre max results came back saying expected speed of 60 mbps ok not full 76 mbps but good enough how ever after making purchase and setting up and wait more than then 10 days for line to be stable as instructed max speed not passing 42mbps which is no where near 60mbps called to explain problem and to be greater by a extremely rude and arrogant customer service operator who as a answer for everything do yourself a favour and stay well clear of this company full of BS hope at later date I can claim all costs back due to mislead information ie false advertisement

What a nightmare trying to switch to SSE and the worst customer service line imaginable. After being on hold for ages when you finally get through you would get more help from talking to a brick wall. Totally unsupportive and unhelpful. I cannot comment on their actual broadband service as I have given up the idea of transferring to them.

Wow...the worst experience i have ever had dealing with a company. We have been left without internet for about a month.
The Customer service team would say one thing one day and another thing another day. One day they would give us one date and another day another for us to go live.
It became so ridiculous with so much communication and always been told something and that not really being the case, that I eventually had to cancel it to get out of it.
Customer Service people seem to be helping and seem sincere, but it appears to me, they themselves have no idea often about stuff and just come out with something just for the sake of providing an answer.
what a waste of our time!

I have just come to the end of an 18 month contract with SSE which was at the unbelievable price of £21 per month for 76mb fibre broadband incl phone line & all anytime landline calls including selected international.
Took a look at their latest deals and those of competitors before giving them a call to see if they could offer me another good package.
Got put through within a couple of minutes to a really helpful person. I realise that the first deal I had with them was exceptionally good and did not expect them to come anywhere near it again. The nearest comparable deal with another big provider would have come to over £40 as would SSE's advertised deals.
I was able to sign up to exactly the same service again with SSE for £36 per month on a new 18 month contract. I am more than happy to pay this. The service has always been excellent since the day they took over my line & service from Talk Talk.
So, for me it is 5 stars all round for SSE. The service is great, I have never had a fault. They do slow the speed down in the evening, but even so I can watch on demand and do huge uploads that I regularly do in the evenings for work without any problem whatsoever. They were quick and easy to deal with on the one and only occasion I have had to call them, which was to renew. Hope everything stays the same when they merge with N Power which is on the horizon.

I'm just finishing with SSE as I've come to the end of my 18 month contract.
I was on the 76meg fibre package and the only reason I'm not renewing is because I can get a cheaper service.
They do use a FUP but I had no issues running web servers, gaming servers and watching live streams on the TV all at the same time.
The supplied router is UGLY but that is all, it copes easily with my unusual LAN setup and numerous port forwarding rules.
One star missing due to the FUP.
Are FUPs needed now in the days of Fibre?
If the price is right go with them. The service is great.

I moved to SSE for price reasons and, on the basis that BT and Plusnet had previously provided good service, thought what could possibly go wrong? Well actually it goes wrong alot. Nearly everynight in fact between 6-11pm. It normally drops to 0.01mbps (that's not a typo!) which effectively means there is zero internet - its not even fast enough to complete the BT wholesale speed test. I've had multiple visits to investigate 'line faults' (as if line faults would happen only in peak times). Eventually they said they couldn't help with me. So I took them to the ombudsman who said hard luck on the basis that SSE state that they traffic manage. So if you have no requirement to use the internet in the evening then I highly recommend them. For everyone else, PLEASE STEER WELL CLEAR!!

I migrated to SSE/Daisy about a month ago and so far I have been very pleased.
The steps from sign-up to connection were clear, easy and communicated well. In fact I was surprised how easy connection and setup was and I successfully attached all my devices in very short order.
I have found the router to be fine and even to have more range and stability than my previous BT Home Hub.
As for speeds, these have increased and my connection is much more stable than I had with BT, despite the cable infrastructure being unchanged. I livein a rural area and so do not have fibre.
Previously, I achieved speeds around 13.3 Mbps/0.87 Mbps. Since migrating I have a stable connection of around 14.7 Mbps/1.07 Mbps. That's a significant increase just for changing providers.
Additionally, the connection is much more stable. With BT internet connectivity would freeze for some seconds several times a day every day. This has now gone.
All this for less than half of the cost BT were proposing with their latest price increase. I am also not locked-in to a long term contract 9only a rolling month).
So, all-in-all I am very happy. I cannot comment on customer service as I have had no occasion to use it. But, I have found in general that this is usually not good from ISPs anyway.
Overall, I think the standard of broadband service still seems a little hit-and-miss in the UK, depending on where you live and other factors.
I seem fortunate to have selected an ISP that is working for me.

Was ok to start with then i recieved a new router after some problems. The customer service is terrible even the managers dont understand anything about routers. The manager i last spoke with didnt even answer my straight forward questions.
All they say is reboot your router. Which i have done countless number of times.
Off to pastures new. I will never use SSE ever again. All they care about is that your paying your bill. Yet they witheld money from the Scottish manufacturing company. Disgusting.

It’s cheap for a reason. The wifi is terrible and the main reason why we switched broadband suppliers. We never had a problem with other companies wifi and the new provider we have the download speed in our lounge is 39Mb, with SSE we couldn’t even get a signal the wifi is that poor!!! The other problem was evening times, Im not saying SSE throttle speeds at peak time (Ive never asked them so don’t know) but during our time with them it really is my belief they do. Sometimes downloading a film around 7pm took an hour, plugged in to the router, set it going at 3pm or midnight and it’s done in 10 mins. My biggest fault with them was the wifi range, absolutely terrible.

I moved to SSE about a year ago. Prices were competitive. I cannot "rubbish" them totally as their hands are very much tied by the service they get from Openreach.
On the positive side, getting through to customer service never proved an issue and they were quick to follow up. There call centre is also in the UK which is great.
On the negative side is the ongoing issue of slow speeds and the broadband dropping out regularly. Despite several engineer visits, resets, etc the matter was never resolved.
SSE have finally agreed to release me from the balance of my contract. Fair play to them.
Our area has just recently had fibre installed so moving back to BT.

Am in the process of leaving SSE. When the line was installed the BT Engineer ran a speed check and I was getting 75mbps. Once I plugged in my router and ran my own speed check I could only max out at 45-50mbps. This has slowly gotten worse over the term and in the last few days the speeds have varied from 5mb to 30mb. So much so that even streaming a music track takes ages. I am cutting my contract short with this company by 2 months as there is no way I can put up with the buffering logo when I am paying for 76mb.

Never had any problems, customer service is fantastic and not once has the connection dropped. Not overally keen on traffic management but I understand the pros and cons. Speed can vary but overall reliable. They did however promise me at least 50mbps but only get 35mpbs otherwise I would given them 5 stars for everything.

Switched from BT after nearly 2 years of decreasing speeds and constant loss of service. BT constantly told me there was no problem and that it must be something wrong at my end. I decided to switch to SSE as they were cheaper and was not really expecting an improved service. However, my average speed has now doubled and the connection is constant (it used to drop about 10 times a day with BT). I had one bad day, with dropped connections, a couple of weeks after it was first installed and called SSE - they actually sorted the problem immediately and called me several times over the following days to check that everything was working ok. No problems since. That rare thing - a better than expected service.

Awful customer service. Spent a year of service being completely ignored. The website features don't work and then you can't get in touch with them to follow up on the broken things. Came to renewal and their renewal service and phone service didn't work. So they lost my business. Still waiting on overdue bills from them and for my money back. I really wanted to like SSE but was majorly disappointed.

Very poor customer services from the beginning:
Here is what happened: I used to get broadband speeds of around 5-7mb download from my previous service provider (EE) but when they increase the charge I decided to leave them to another service provider.
I made a search online and I found that SSE offered the same service at a more competitive price than EE, I therefore contacted them by phone and made all the necessary arrangements in order to run the service smoothly by 2nd of May.
Unfortunately, on the 3rd of May I realised that there was no internet at all, I started phoning SSE technical support to see what the problem was and I was astonished to find out the following:
That I had to connect the router in the main (tester) socket which I couldn’t as I never did with all previous service providers and since we have been living at this address, also my desktop is located in the first floor and the main socket is downstairs. Initially it was never mentioned when I signed up for the service that I would have to use this specific socket, we also both my wife and I explained that its location would not allow any wire since it is situated down the stairs case at the bottom of the wall (it would constitute a health and safety hazard), the wire has been installed to provide phone connection and other devices without any issues for years.
When I first contacted the engineers I find out that most of them lacked expertise in their field as they gave me wrong information.
I spoke as well as my wife with one lady who was very rude, interruptive and raising her voice, she made threats to overcharge us if we would consider changing service provider as it was already 3 days we were left with no connection at all and told us that it was “our fault that we would have to use this socket” and the issue was solved according to her.
We went through the process of checking lines ... So after that, it was established there was no fault on the line and they did not offer any problem solving bearing in mind that 12 hours ago the connection was fully active before plugging the new SSE connection device.
On the 4th day I asked a friend of mine to help me to sort out this problem as I needed the internet as my children are preparing for exams in A-Levels and they need to print materials, in addition my wife also has all her work through the internet. He carried all the tests checked our router, sockets etc and no fault, no wiring or hardware issue and he ran a test and the connection works but is very slow and we are unable to access it on the TV as we were able previously.
Now for this period of few days we experienced many difficulties as we keep losing the connection so many times, this practically happened many times.
We struggle to load a webpage, we have 2 children that would like to use the internet for homework let alone if 4 people want to use the internet... watching video or TV is out of the question.
I decided to cancel it as there was no problem solving, and made again another long research for another service provider as this is highly hindrance I think I have a good case to get my contract ended early and not after one or two months where I will find myself struggling again in a deadlock situation and us being the ones ripped off!
They asked me to pay £218.18 as I canceled my contract early!!
