Worst broadband I've ever used. 0.5 Mb/s download, what is that about? I'm supposed to be getting 80Mb/s.

Speedtest.net says 60Mb/s, Microsoft.com download achieves 20kB/s. Traffic Shaping ultimate fail.

    No thanks.

Called up on the 14th to take advantage of the free broadband offer. Was told someone will call me back later to give me the offer and take it further. No calls a week later. Phoned them up and found out there was no record of my call and will not honour the deal. Avoid...

Wi-Fi is absolutely rubbish , had it for over a year now , constantly turning off all day everyday , for the last month the speed gets slower and slower each day and its now at 0.1mbps and can barley open a website, shocking!

Absolutely abysmal service. Stay clear. Due to change over from BT last Tuesday, phone and broadband. Phone was changed over. They failed to tell me an engineer was coming to change socket for broadband. Did not know this until got home and found note through door from engineer. Tried phoning SSE that night, after an hour someone answered who said they were only taking messages and would get someone to call me the next night. Guess what no-one called back. Next night after an hour got through to someone who aid they would be in touch to re-arrange engineer visit. On Saturday someone called to say they would contact me by phone either later on Saturday or Monday to let me know when engineer would be coming. Guess what-no call yet. I spent over 30minutes on the phone tonight but did not get through to anyone. I did get a letter today saying they want to resolve my complaint to my satisfaction and will be in touch in due course. Easily soled-Answer the phone-Call back when you say you will-Arrange engineer visit. Surely not difficult. Hint to anyone thinking of changing anything-find the customer service number and call it and see how long you have to wait. If it is a long time they must have loads of complaints. Final bit of advice-AVOID SSE. Only 18 months to go before I can change provider.

I have spent 3 months waiting for SSE to start the service. First appointment with openreach was cancelled by openreach and sse failed to tell me. They booked it on another day which I was not aware of so open reach attended when no one was there and it was a missed appointment. Sse apologised for the mistake and booked another appointment 6 weeks later. I confirmed 3 times over the phone including this morning since it was an am appointment, and was told the appointment was confirmed. Nobody turned up. I called they said they didn't understand and would call me back. They called back and said no appointment had been booked for today!! I raised a formal complaint They are trying to book another appointment now, but can not confirm a date, unbelievable. I'm wondering how there's so much confusion on the broadband side, perhaps I should look elsewhere and let them stick with energy, the signs are very bad.

Absolutely atrocious. To cut a long story short a month has passed and they are still unable to even process the application. Have spent what seems like days on the phone and eventually because they had no idea what to do. I have told them to forget it. Supposedly they will be compensating me with £50. Don't go anywhere near SSE for broadband. Hopeless.

Absolutely shocking. Was fine when 1st went in but a month later the blaming covid for slow speed. We pay for upto 70mbwe were averaging 34 mg and that was fine. Suddenly were on around 4mg bearing in mind we have 2 kids and out TVs are all internet service providers and rely on good speed. Have contacted sse and not a thing been done or said. Got to an escalation point yesterday and we have escalated it but they just dont give any cares at all. We will be leaving sse and not paying to do so as there not proving a service we pay for. Dont bother people its shocking

the most appalling broadband provider EVER! Connections without access to internet. complete drop outs. pay for 17mb service and don't get any service at all. 17mb service is capped at 10mb when it works. overall this company and its internet is absolutely disgusting, appalling and shameful. customer service do EVERYTHING to blame the customer EVEN WHEN an engineer has been out TWICE and found nothing wrong this end. If I could give zero stars that would be too many. Takes on average 40 mins to answer the phone lines. I switched in September and still awaiting my phone number in Jan 2020.

Avoid this provider at all costs as they simply haven’t a clue

Terrible broadband, slow, unreliable. Disconnecting every 5 min. While I'm writing this I have to use my mobile data because wifi is not working. I cant believe that such bad broadband still exists in 21st century. I'll be forced to switch to another network ASAP.
Not to mention that they sent engineer to the old address when I was moving so I was waiting for internet for 1 month. Overall really terrible.

Shocking - total waste of money. Ultra Fast which can't even load an IPlayer stream when nothing else is connected to the router. Shocking throttling from their provider (daisy). SSE customer service is useless. Do not be sucked in by the cheap price, stay with BT!

    AVOID!!!!
Absolute shambles of a company. Signed up to their 'Fixed and fibre' package, which was to include energy supply (electric and gas) as well as broadband. The energy tariff wasn't the cheapest available to me, but with the discounted broadband price it worked out pretty well. However I have now come to realise this was all too good to be true. I have now been waiting around 3 months for my broadband to 'go live'. This includes multiple visits from engineers and hours on hold on the phone to multiple people repeating the same story over and over and over. Every time I call they say 'we need an engineer sent out', then the engineer comes out and tells me everything is fine and tests it to make sure. Then I have to go back to SSE and repeat the whole cycle again. I am now currently on my 4th or 5th 'Go live' date with yet again no broadband. I could of went with another company and had internet in my property by now. I would warn anyone considering SSE as supplier to stay well clear. Not worth the hassle!

Stay away from this company. Initially, for the first 60 days I had excellent fibre broadband speeds 40mb down/10mb up. I had no reason to leave under their '60 days happiness guarantee'.

Since the first two months have passed I am now experiencing multiple days without internet and the times that they decide to connect me I am only getting 4mb down. This is clear breach of contract of the minimum speed that was agreed by both parties.

The customer service is rude and ignorant, numerous attempts to fix this issue have failed and they have stated it is due to my equipment. This is not the case.

I got the account credited £5 to 'buy a new microfilter' when there is nothing wrong with the one I got.

If you want a reliable Internet service with top consistent speeds, then please do not waste your time with these incompetent cowboys.
    Better off looking elsewhere.

I was with sse fibre broadband for a couple of weeks when the problems began, I had 2 main problems 1: complete loss of broadband, 2:Speed dropping to less than 512kbps,this happened many times over a 6 month period, when I complained they kept going through the same rigmarole, I told them many times that I had done the test required by them, each time, and knew what to do, as I am a qualified computer engineer. They wouldn't send a engineer out,and the problem remained. Even after contacting the ombudsman and providing evidence of the problems, nothing was done. Oddly enough ,6 months after the initial complaint, when I told Sse that I had complained to the ombudsman the speed improved, I got a regular speed of 38.6 mbps until september, when the ombudsman failed me and I pulled out of the contract. I was informed by a close friend, who us an ex-fibre broadband engineer that it is BT openreach's fault as they are known to reduce speeds purposely, to encourage you to either upgrade or to move over to B.T. Its a huge con and nobody does anything about it because B.T are in control.

Avoid at all costs. If there was a zero rating I would definitely choose that for the Speed and reliability options above.

I have been having issues with this service since signing up some 6 months ago.

Firstly, the package which I signed up for was only partially taken over which meant even though I had ordered Telephone, Calls and Broadband in a package they only ported over the telephone line and not the broadband too. This meant that I was being billed from them for the full package and from my previous supplier for the broadband too.

Having since rectified this and since the broadband has been provided by SSE I have had barely any service with intermittent complete drop outs if it works at all.

I went through all their tests and still there were issues I asked for a new router and they never sent one. I also called back and they said that they had closed the complaint as they called me and no one answered - how about leaving a message???

I called to let them know I would be going with another supplier and they tried to pull the old "termination fee" being in the "terms and conditions of the contract" to which I politely reminded the call handler, through a muffled laugh, that it was indeed them who were in breach of contract and that they are more than welcome to pursue me under breach of contract if they foolishly believed they would indeed win.

They seem to limit upload/download speed to less than 50% the regular speed almost every day.
I'm a freelance graphic designer and this entire outfit has caused me to be even slower than the 35mbit fibre I had with sky, much less the 78mbit speed I can get for about an hour a day before it throttles me back.

I read online that the services are actually provided by Daisy Wholesale.
I've today written a complaint to SSE and delivered via recorded postage. At the same time I'm bringing the matter to the attention of the Ombudsman and Ofcom.
I suggest eveyone else experiencing underhanded throttling also do the same. It takes 10 minutes of your time and right now it's critical that no new customers are onboarded with SSE Unlimited Ultrafast Fibre without knowing the material facts which will effect their daily use of the service. I thought we were past this kind of rubbish but now we're all locked in to an 18 month contract with them.

I don't torrent, download significant amounts of data, but it seems that services such as teamviewer are seen as p2p and as such it's impossible to use for even 30 minutes logging in to my desktop machine upstairs to fetch files before these SOB's throttle the connection.

We're livid. They have picked the wrong person to target with fraudulent advertising of services.

Switched to them phone and broadband at the beginning of August. Then they disconnected my broadband and now I'm in 5th week of trying to get it re-connected. Nightmare company to deal with, constantly fobbed off by support and still don't know when I will have broadband back. The few pounds you may save with them is really not worth it.

Had problems with my phone from the start and broadband, they transferred all my calls to my mobile saying it wouldn't cost me or callers a penny, but I got a massive bill and so did someone else, my phone was never fixed and I called them to ask about this bill, they said I was refusing to pay my bill, I said I wasn't, but the woman said that I was refusing to pay it and as we spoke on the phone I noticed my Internet had gone off, so I told her and she said she had switched it off, then after the call I needed to call social services regarding my Lifeline pendant but my phone has been switched off, I have had letters sent to me saying that I am using my phone quite a bit more than usual, how can I be when its not on? Also one letter is dated 4th October 2018 and one 9th October 2018 saying I'm using my phone a lot, I'll let the scientists in America know not to continue their study in Time Travel because SSE have beaten them to it.

Worst service ever! I received the router and connected the whole thing; the light showed red and I followed the advice on how to reset the thing several times. It never worked; not for a second I had access to Internet with this provider. I called them and was put on hold forever. I emailed them and they never replied. I decided to cancel after 5 weeks of no service. I asked them how I could return the router. No reply. Now they are requesting that I pay them for the service they did not provide. I refuse. They are sending threatening letters telling me that a debt collector will come (in the middle of a pandemic lockdown) and they will take me to court. I told them to skip the collector and go straight for the court so that I can present my evidence and have my say to someone who will actually listen!! Big, big scam!! Do not say I didn't warn you.....

Word of Advice - AVOID THIS COMPANY!
Never had a reliable connection and speed were less than contractually obligated speed.
    Complained several times, no resolution.
I am taking them to the Regulator as they say I owe monies out of contract which they breached.
Good luck with that SSE, you wont get a penny out of me!
    DO NOT USE!!!

I do not think it is possible to put into words just how strongly I am urging the reader of this review to not sign up to a broadband contract with SSE. Find a different provider! My connection was due to go live 3 weeks ago now, and I still have no internet. I have spent hours over the last few weeks on the phone to the helpline, and most of that has been on hold. Be ready to be on hold for about 30 minutes before you get through to anyone. Then you will have to explain the problem again from scratch. Then you will be told to carry out some new check on the connection, probably one that you have already been asked to carry out several times before. Sometimes they will actually be proactive and phone you, but the person will have information about a week out of date and will be mystified at the fact that the thing they have called you about has now already been checked. The latest update is that they want to schedule their second engineer visit. Why this is required when the first engineer told me that they had tested everything at my end and found no problems, no one so far has been able to adequately explain. They want me to take another day off work. Should I change provider? There is apparently a chance there is a network problem which would go with me to a new provider, but I was still tempted to do so for the chance I got a more competent help service.

Fortunately I have now discovered that I can get fibre broadband installed in the property, so I will be doing that. I pity anyone in this position who does not have that option.

To sum up, sign up to a broadband contract with SSE at your own risk!

We have had no internet service from SSE since 14 February 2020. Despite multiple calls, SSE has been unable to fix the fault.
They have said that SSE appointed Vodafone as their new phone and broadband provider in September, and all customers underwent a migration from BT/TalkTalk to Vodafone in recent weeks. The migration failed for the TalkTalk service. We were first told we were the only customers affected, then informed there were 40 customers in this situation. The latest we have been told is that about 2,000 customers are affected. We understand that SSE have a review meeting on 24 February to find a way out of this. Has anyone else got further information or been told differently?

17Mb Con - YOU WILL NEVER GET 17Mb or anywhere near it. SSE say 3.4 - 7 Mbs = 17Mb contract. With only 0.5Mb upload on top leads to an abismal service. PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THIS CON AND DO NOT USE SSE. SSE ARE DELIBERATELY ABUSING YOU

Worst Internet provider, ever. Problems after problems, engineer after engineer, router after router, still never managed to fix the problem, in the end I left because it took too much time and money too get this issue fixed, I had to wait 30 minutes for a phone line everytime I rang, and to wait and explain to all theses different people each time I phoned, really did me no favours thinking I'd be better off with sse with no month contract, but I was kidding myself. Worst Internet provider ever. Waste of time.

Was fine for first 2 months than they show you down and ask you to pay more for fibre broadband.

After a complaint to sse for 9mps I was getting on ultra fast broadband of 63mps I sighned up for this is a bit of the managers response,SSE don’t sell on speed, we sell on package and there is some information around the parameters of that on the website. WIFI is also not included in our terms and conditions as a guarantee. That being said even if I wanted to investigate the speed fault now for you I can’t as from midnight tonight we won’t be your supplier.

6 weeks after signing up for SSEs phone and broadband deal I cannot comment on speed or reliability because it's still not working. Ours was treated as new install and that was good because the internal cables where probably 1960s GPO. Eventually we received an install date I had to travel 350 miles home from Scotland to make sure I was there for the engineer because they threatened 108 pounds bill if no one was in. I sat in for 5 hours and no one came. Eventually called them to be told it had been switched on exchange, flipping heck had they told us I needn't have travelled, it had probably been switched on days before when my partner received an unsolicited call from Indian call centre. They must have known a number to call but sse didn't tell us. The phone couldn't phone out but eventually I'd to call to ask for new number. Made complaint got long letter back dealing my complaint but nothing else. Broadband router received 7 or 8 days later remember they promise 5 but instructions said don't install till you get code on separate letter. It never came. Eventually called them to be told it didn't need one. Hours on phone to them explanation after explanation and still no broadband. My advice folks look elsewhere for experienced provider .
