If you are looking for a broadband and phone supplier I would run for the hills when considering TalkTalk. Having been a loyal customer for nearly 5 years now we have had endless problems with a simple home switch.
Dealing with their call centre is frustrating at best. I think when they put their staff through training they instruct them to leave all common sense at the front door and only follow a scripted dialogue with all TalkTalk clients. Absolutely NO help at all when dealing with 'real' people.
Not only can you not actually sort out a problem if you don't follow the 'unspoken' script but the customer it seems is now being charged for the companies failures and short comings in a simple home switch, and of course there seems to be little chance of actually sorting out the problem because I'm dealing with a call center on the other side of the world with people whom I can hardly understand.
So if you are reading this review, my advice would be to steer clear of this company. As soon as my contract is up I will be leaving TalkTalk and throwing a party to celebrate getting rid of a huge thorn in my side!

If you're thinking of joining, don't! I have been with them for 14months and have had nothing but issues. Direct debits fluctuate and I have currently been on the phone for an hour and 40mins for the second time this month! Furious, they pass you from pillar to post with the promise of call backs that don't happen! You can NEVER speak to the same person twice and even a member of staff told me its vertually impossible to track a specific person in their offices to be put through. Awful, useless company. Advisors are extremely polite but not helpful in the slightest, they don't seem to be able to do much but connect you to another team. I've been back and forth between the fault managers and costumer services for almost 2 hours! Seriously, don't get tied in. They make it extremely difficult to get out!

Simply atrocious. Heavily advise people not to join talk talk. There broadband speeds are horrendous and internet frequently cuts out, in some cases taking more than a day to work again. Pay the extra few pounds and join another provider

Signed up to Talk Talk, service didn’t work. We complained and they said they would arrange an engineer in 72 hours. An engineer came the next morning with no warning when we were out.
When we called back they said they had already sent the engineer to resolve the problem. I stated that was unhelpful as they didn’t call ahead. They said another one would come in 72 hours.
They never came so, I called back and they said the engineer never came because I didn’t rebook, however I had never received a text to rebook.
Finally I received the text to rebook, so I tried to rebook. At this point the adviser said that this was the text I should I received when the original engineer didn’t come, it had just come a week late.
My case had been closed because I didn’t respond to this ‘non-existent’ text.
They said they would rebook and another one would come in 72 hours. I stated I wanted to cancel – I had been calling every day and each time given a different answer. On top of that, I had no service.
They said the cancellation had been successful and I should call back for a refund.
I called back the next week for a refund and they told me that the cancellation had been unsuccessful!! They transferred me to cancellations and I was put on hold constantly as the person didn’t know what they were doing. I finally got through to a manager after 45 minutes who continually spoke over me and told me I can’t have a refund this month and I will need to call back next month.
I bet when I call, they’ll find another reason not to give me a refund.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I was initially on a 12 month contract with talk talk which ended sum time ago however I did nothing about it... thought when I have the time being a busy mum of 3 and pregnant with my fourth working full time and being a part time student in my last year thought after baby and graduation in may 2014 I would look around for the best deal. However only recently end of august 2014 I looked online and found a very good deal with sky and decided to join sky. My service qith sky began on the 1 oct 2014 Only a yesterday did I receive a email telling me that I have to pay £201.74 for breaking my contract early I kept tinking I got this contract 1 yr and a half ago What so they mean then I called talk talk to enquire about it and was told I WA initially on 12 months contract but I was upgraded to the TV essentials package on the 17 Jan 2014 which is a 2 yr contract ending 16 Jan 2016... and the advisor said they upgraded me to it only after I agreed or gave consent... let me clarify I DID NOT CO SENT OR AGREE TO THIS CONTRACT OR HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OF IT. I received no paper works to say thanks you for upgrading you are now on our 2yr essential tv package if I did I would have called them. In my time with talk talk I have never made any contact with them they only called me to offer me the you view box which they said is free as their offer ring it to new customers I specifically said if it's free il take it if not then no thanks they tried offering for me to upgrade to some other package which I said no to because as talk talk can check on their records I hardly use my landline Iv got it for my broadband purposes and for making calls to 0844/0845/0870 numbers etc official offices other then that don't use it . However I should have suspected something when my bills hiked up from £27 to £38 per month. Unbelievable how they deceived me and committed this fraud. It is outrageous and damn right wrong on top of that have the cheek to hare me for coming out of a contract I didn't have any knowledge of. Furthermore talk talk it was at the you say I agreed to it in Jan 2014 I would have known that I'm in a 24 months contract and not gone looking one line to see who had cheapest offers also I believe I was under alot of stress around that time because my uni assignment was due in on the 19 of January do to u reply tink I would have put that on hold to agree to a contract which will oat me more each month when I have 3 mouths to feed. You sceaming scammers. Urgh left a very bad taste in my mouth never ever will I be going to talk talk again or recommending you will be telling everybody about this Facebook instagram twitter get ready here I come...

I wouldn't recommend anyone join TalkTalk, I have called and cancelled my contract twice and the idiots on the phone (can barely understand a word of English) promise I won't be charged and the month after I'm sent a bill. This company is an absolute joke!
As well as bad customer service my WiFi used to stop working quite often, sometimes for 24 hours, when they promise you an engineer they charge you £50 and the engineer only brought a new router to my house. Every time they promise not to charge you you receive a bill.
Landline is too expensive and will cost you a bomb.
All in all, don't give Talk Talk your money!

Customer service is appalling and contract was not clear. We were submitted to several fishing calls from India looking to place software on our computer as the security service at talk talk was dreadful and our details had been stolen. Our contract stated that it finished on the 12th January 2017, but they then said we had to give 30 days notice although it didn't state this anywhere on the customer details on the website. They obviously wished to make it difficult to leave. I would never recommend or join talk talk again. Be warned! I will be telling everyone I meet to beware!

Absolutely awful. Was told to be in for an engineer who never arrived. Turned out they'd sent all the wrong equipment. Call handler in India couldn't understand what I was saying and unable to deviate from their script so nothing got resolved. Locked in a contract but not receiving any service at all! When I tried to complain on the chat bot I was told they don't have a complaints team, they have a separate team for every other flipping thing! Totally incompetent company.left me stressed and upset. Would not recommend.

Absolutely disappointed with the service, I’ve had to use my own personal data when we pay for this awful service and get next to nothing! The service is awful, speed and connection is disgraceful. I would NOT recommend this broadband to anyone. Even when they send their “engineers” to come solve the issue or send a another router nothing is solved! Will definitely be choosing another realiable broadband.

Do not go with this company. Above all else, the customer service is atrocious.
I phoned to find out when my contract was due to end and was told 17th March, but after that date it would continue on a month by month basis and I may be charged if I move house!!
What a cheek, when I have only signed up for a 12 month contract.
I was then transferred to another 'team' - sounded like a group of people chatting to each other loudly in a shack somewhere.
The advisor couldn't understand a single thing I said and just kept going silent - she didn't seem to have even a basic grasp of English.
This is not a company who have any morals whatsoever when it comes to the treatment of staff or their customers, clearly.
I would certainly not sign up with them again.

The only reason I am giving 1 is because I can't give 0 or negetive ratings. This has been the worst experience of using any product in my life. I feel helpless that I have subscribed to their service. The service is not working. I can't stop the service as I am in a contract but the internet is not working. I feel like I want to kill myself for being stupid to go for such a bad provider. Moreover while setting up they sent an engineer( I was told that for the first set up engineer visit is free) then I was charged 65£ for the engineer visit. ( I am not the only one who's been conned this was, other reviews on twitter say that). This must be the worst service provider in the world.

Took out a TalkTalk broadband contract but had slow speeds from day one. Told it can take time to settle, left for a week and then contacted TalkTalk. Tried some fixes but wanted to charge for an engineer to visit. Took up my right to cancel within 20 days. Signed up with Virgin Broadband. 4 months later realised TalkTalk have still been charging me every month so I rang to report this and refused to refund money taken as claimed it was Virgin 'who didn't take over the line' and was therefore my fault as stated it verbal terms and conditions.
Horrendous experience and will never return as a customer.

Very poor slow download speed. Three people in our road have transferred away from Talktalk to BT and their broadband speed has improved enormously, but mine has diminished accordingly. It seems that Talktalk are not given enough bandwidth by BT to supply the needs of their customers.

Utterly, dreadfully awful - incompetent to the point of dishonesty, clueless script reading support with zero technical knowledge. Avoid this ISP. Also it's impossible to leave cleanly. I've had BT Infinity for 3 months but am still being charged for my old (thrice cancelled) TalkTalk service (plus penalties for cancelling the DD) 'yes you have cancelled but BT did not follow migration procedure so your service is still being provided' - I've spent hours in chat and on the phone but no-one can explain it. Finally managed to get my phone service from them cancelled today (ie switched off completely) and paid a large charge I didn't owe to be rid of them. BT are still trying to repatriate calls - I've always had line rental from BT (I'm a Pipex business customer who was co-opted to TalkTalk residential via Opel) but since migration TalkTalk have also been charging me for that (my monthly bill went up!). Impossible to get redress or speak to anyone who actually understands the detail of their services. Spend 2 minutes on Google checking reviews - my experience is typical.

I had no problems with the set-up. I had no problem with the overall service. What I have a huge problem with is the awful customer service. I can't understand half of what they are saying. Accuse me of being racist but I simply cannot understand a thick Indian accent. That's the first problem. Secondly, I called on numerous occasions and every sinlge bit of information I got contradicted what someone said on the last call. No one seems to understand anything I am saying. Even the basics are not understood by them. I simply wanted to know whether my bill is for a month in advance or the previous month. 2 calls and 2 opposite answers. Trying to charge me mony after my account has shut down saying they will re-imburse it on the final bill. Just don't trust them. Spent 2 hours trying also to change the account to a different account holder. They just were clueless. called 3 different people with 3 different answers. An absolute joke

I’ve been a Talk Talk and it’s legacy customer from 2006 until this week.
We had the fibre package, noticed buffering in December so downloaded and did a speed test 1mb!. Visit from their engineer, no better!. BT attended changed my wall socket and got the speed to 8mb. After numerous and lengthy phone calls I terminated my contract.
On plugging in my new router with BT the instant speed was 50mb!.
There is a deep routed issue with Talk Talk and their technical ability to solve an issue. After the last few weeks, I would never use them again and would advise people to steer clear if thinking of entering a contract with them!

I called talktalk and there sales people estimated my bb would be 11.6mbps I know this is only an estimate but when I started to receive bb my speed was 3.2mbps, called and complained "give us 28 days to rectify your speed sir" I was told or else you can cancel free of charge. 28 days later and a £265 bill for breaking my contract becaseu it was only an estimate speed not a guaranteed speed. Customer services lost their temper with me, all they were saying is "you are getting the national average speed" but I signed up to a contract of 11mbps not 3mbps so I have Virgin media coming next week with fibre @ 100mbps (hopefully) avoid TALKTALK at all costs they will lie to you to get you into a contract and do whatever they can to charge you money.

Poor poor company. Customer service is shocking. Loose orders! Despite sending out confirmation emails saying everything will change! 9 different departments bouncing me around because they don’t know how to deal with it or who should. Can’t wait for my contract to end! If I can’t get out of it sooner. Internet seems okay not really had issues with that but when there is a issue, you won’t be treated right and they don’t care!

Mobile 3G internet is faster and more reliable than Fibre from TalkTalk. The company suckers you in with hot marketing and super competitive prices, but you pay for what you get; it isn't a lot.
Would be ideal to have a location where you can get Virgin, if you can, you're in luck.
If...sorry.. When you run into problems with service/product, BT engineers will try to diagnose and fix. However in our experience, you never have a permanent fix and what happens is BT engineers blame ISP TalkTalk while they blame the engineers for not fixing the fault so there is no liability.
There is no reinvestment into infrastructure or better service, just into superior marketing campaigns, leaving the product not fit for purpose.
Even in third world countries you can get super fast 4G internet at a price equation to £20 a month with extremely high caps of 100 gigabytes/month+
Would love to have similar but we are stuck with companies like TalkTalk for broadband because mobile companies are just as bad as to not offer these attractive alternatives. Come on Ofcom, bored of the war against energy prices, sort these guys out

Talk talk. What can I say that hasn’t already been said, they are an awful provider. I have spent 6-8 weeks with little or no connection. The live chat is pointless, twitter support is worse, they eventually get you through to ‘ceo’ support. None of these people do anything to resolve your issue. Lots of talk and questions, never a resolution. Just do not bother with them pay the extra for Sky and BT.
I am sure talktalk will post a reply about ‘contact us’, ‘we are sorry’ get the message folks, get some engineers and people who can actually fix issues. Not these low paid customer service folks who want to be your mate. Your killing your customers.

My broadband was out for around 10 days. Not TalkTalk's fault - that was BT failing to fix a line properly. But my 5-6 engagements with TalkTalk faults department & customer service ranged from unhelpful to unhelpful and pretty rude. For not being able to work (and earn a living), or do anything else requiring broadband for a week and a half I was offered ... £8 compensation. Tp put this in perspective, when something similar happened with Plusnet at my partner's place, she was offered a free new router, a month's service free and a cheaper monthly tariff. And they were nice. TalkTalk? Bye bye.

Found talktalk service to be terrible over the years have told them this many times to be told the same rubbish like is there something blocking your modem move it to another room etc.
The worst is I’ve literally been trying to cancel my service for which I don’t even have a contract for over 3 Months but for some reason if you have a landline have to give them 30 days notice me and my wife have spent countless hours on the phone to them speaking to rude staff that when they can’t sell you an upgrade bounce you department to department until someone just hangs up. After leaving complaints you are asked to send your reference number someone will be in touch no one ever does so when you again ask where is my call
You get the same reply
Are you looking to upgrade? NO I WANT TO LEAVE
Please leave your reference number someone will call….. over and over again
I have now cancelled my direct debit and getting threatening emails on I need to reinstate it or be charged for a late payment. These people are thrives and are some how allowed to get away with this. It’s a disgrace of a company how can someone read these reviews and think it’s ok to run your company like this!! Why can’t you just have a cancel subscription page on your website oh yeah it’s because you can just keep taking payments till it suits you. Awful company awful service
