SSE have cut us off our talk talk broadband have not provided a new router so we cant connect to broadband, and have been disconnect for a week now. After holding the line for 40 min i was promised a router for next day delivery which never arrived, called again and was told it has defiantly been sent out this time and we still don't have a router so cant connect to the internet. please avoid this company if you cant afford to be without internet for long period of time. Most annoyingly they lie.

Worst service ever! I received the router and connected the whole thing; the light showed red and I followed the advice on how to reset the thing several times. It never worked; not for a second I had access to Internet with this provider. I called them and was put on hold forever. I emailed them and they never replied. I decided to cancel after 5 weeks of no service. I asked them how I could return the router. No reply. Now they are requesting that I pay them for the service they did not provide. I refuse. They are sending threatening letters telling me that a debt collector will come (in the middle of a pandemic lockdown) and they will take me to court. I told them to skip the collector and go straight for the court so that I can present my evidence and have my say to someone who will actually listen!! Big, big scam!! Do not say I didn't warn you.....

The fundamental problem with SSE is that their routers cannot provide the speeds they quote without freezing.

The moment your internet speed (i.e. data/time) reaches a certain point, the router will freeze and you will need to restart your device's connection.

This means that for most video streaming services, the video will pause and you will need to restart your internet connection, refresh the video page, and then skip to where you left off.

Likewise, if you are downloading a file via a browser, it will most likely disconnect (thus cancelling the download) within 20 seconds.

I went with SSE for their high speed in my area (~90), and their one month contract. They do provide the speed they advertise, and I've had no issue cancelling my contract.

However, I would never ever recommend SSE to anyone till the company gets off its backside and fixes its hardware issue. I would rather pay more for a slower speed than deal with this frustration again.

    Stay far away.

Our fibre broadband stopped working, so once I got through to an operator (20 minutes wait at peak time) she was very helpful, patient and being an English call centre, there was no issue with understanding each other. She talked me through making several address changes in my routers settings which took a while, but she waited until I had tested the fix and all is well again.
I've had 3 occasions now to contact sse broadband with issues over 3 years, and all 3 times their level of service is excellent. I left BT because I found their customer service non exsistant and they caused me a lot of stress, sse customer service is a credit to them and is why I'm writing this review.

Loss my internet for 3 days. Contacted them for 2days. Finally reached them yesterday. Booked for an Eegernner to come today. No contact and no one turns up.
So bloody mad mad mad. Will definitely leave this company when my contact ends. Terrible speed, broken off all the time. Don't use this company for your internet.

I joined Sse as I was unhappy with the poor Internet connection I was getting whilst with my previous supplier BT. I couldn't get BT to solve my connection even though they took £129 off me for a call out. SSE were totally different - from the point I wrote them an email on their complaints forms I was assigned a dedicated sse complaints operative, who responded promptly to me with constructive steps to take to solve my connection. Within 3 weeks an Openreach engineer was outside our house fixing our line, which we didn't pay any money for this time. We've now got a reliable line at the correct speed. Can only say good things about Sse broadband (and nothing good to say about BT).

Have been with SSE less than a month, So far had a whole week with no internet at all, SSE then had an engineer sent over, who fixed it straight away. However broadband speed between about 17:00 until about 22:00 makes it almost unuseable. We have 2 phones and 2 computers connected to it in the house, but even if we switch wireless off on everything but one device, it is still so slow that you can rarely watch a video without constant bufferring. Not what I expected from 'ultra fast fibre broadband'
The customer service I have received from them, has been brilliant thus far, certainly can't fault that in anyway.

Since we moved to SSE Phone and Broadband we have had nothing but problems, all reported and one fix at their end as Openreach confirmed there was no problem at our house. Upgraded to Fibre, and now can't use the internet at all unless you want to visit only the homepage of a website. Now trying to move away from them due to poor service (only been with SSE for 3 weeks) and they are charging me 12 months termination charges even though there has been problems on the line that they can not fix. Senior Management Team did nothing to help other than send a letter saying the complaint in now in Deadlock.

Don't Bother, complete waste of money and time.

After waiting over 6 weeks for the Fibre broadband transfer from EE to be connected, i told them i would be on holiday on the 21st of July they said no problem your connection will still go live as i told them that i had fibre connected before with EE. when i got back i had an answerphone message from a BT engineer saying that we weren't in. Regardless to that i plugged everything in to find fibre speeds of 34mb. Happy customer to that point then on Wednesday the 5th of August i lose my DSL light, ring them the next day to find out that i didn't have a BT engineer call and they automatically disconnected me. Asking for a manager I got a guy called Gary, who promised me that they could fast track it and get it reconnected the following week. I rang Friday to find out that this would then take two weeks, ok i said i need some kind of internet they promised me a dongle to be sent down by Tuesday. Tuesday came and no dongle arrived. Waited another 20 mins on hold for a different manager to promise it me the next day. the day before the connection i rang to make sure if somebody needed to be in the house for the BT engineer, i got told no its fine as its been working before. connection day happens and now i am connected by i am told that BT have to sign it off within 10 days otherwise i will be disconnected again! Ring Gary up again saying that i will cancel, get a promise that it will be sorted with there provider, I asked if this was BT and i got told no they use another provider? So they are piggy backing on another providers internet servers and then they have got to sort out internet. The place is a shambles nobody talks to you if you want to find something out you have to wait for 20 minutes and then get promised things that doesn't happen! I have never needed a BT engineer to plug in Fibre before and when i have had problems in the past other companies have sorted this directly with BT. It's a funny story as i have been connected twice and it working just in 10 days i know i am going to lose it for 10 days.

So we went through Uswitch as recommended by a friend and up popped SSE with the best deal, contacted them also and decided to take out the “Unlimited Fibre” package which is speeds up to 38Mbps. At the start it was ok speed but not great ranging between 14Mbps - 18Mbps and as the months went on it then began to decline at a steady pace we are currently 10 months into our 18 month contract and we average between 1Mbps - 2Mbps with an average upload of 0.5Mbps. Broadband is absolutely atrocious, the worst we have ever had. We where told to expect some issues with speed and connectivity from time to time but this is a joke, told that if we wanted to cancel we would have to pay a colossal sum of money to make up for the months remaining that SSE will lose out on. We currently pay £23 a month but this “Unlimited Fibre” is normally a £47 per month package.

Done line test with sse to yeast for fibre max results came back saying expected speed of 60 mbps ok not full 76 mbps but good enough how ever after making purchase and setting up and wait more than then 10 days for line to be stable as instructed max speed not passing 42mbps which is no where near 60mbps called to explain problem and to be greater by a extremely rude and arrogant customer service operator who as a answer for everything do yourself a favour and stay well clear of this company full of BS hope at later date I can claim all costs back due to mislead information ie false advertisement

I read an Ofcom review of SSE broadband - they have one of the worst drop-out rates on their ADSL service, presumably to drive people to upgrade to the more expensive (nearly) fibre service. I contacted SSE about the number of service drop-outs I am experiencing (2 or more every day) and they said it was because I was using my own router - replacing with SSE's router has not improved the situation. I cannot wait for the contract to end to I can get out and use Plusnet which I use at another location and is much more reliable - even though this location is out in the sticks and the infrastructure is mostly on poles and is old and noisy. I couldn't recommend anyone using SSE for broadband.

I had previously left a positive comment but would absolutely withdraw that and not recommend anyone this company. I have been left without Internet for over a week and I work from home. Misinformation from the staff at SSE and have been basically left to keep chasing. I have no confidence in them being proactive about sorting my issues out as they cannot even raise a ticket for an engineer to visit despite promising to do so. Appalling service, I would advise to avoid.

I've been with SSE broadband for over 12 months and have been delighted. Never had a problem and over 30Mbps on their fibre system. Recently moved house and was particularly impressed. The changeover day between properties was agreed and come the day, I moved the router to the new property, turned on and there it was! No engineer required and well impressed. Would highly recommend

I am on a fixed rate ADSL line which expires in March.
I wanted to renew and after making numerous attempts to discuss and when I eventually made contact was referred to no fewer than three advisors I was told I would have to pay a further £10 per month in line with the fibre fixed price which
I cannot get (and do not want)
    Customer service ia appalling
    I do not recommend

Today is the first day of my broadband with SSE. Am I impressed? Definitely not! Did they tell me that they did not supply an email service? No. Did they tell me that they don't answer their customer services line within a reasonable time? No. Here I am on day one, waiting for customer services to answer the phone. It is now 7.10 p.m. and I have been waiting since 6.10 p.m. and listening to music and a prerecorded voice saying 'Thank you for your patience, your call will be answered as s soon as possible.' BEWARE!!!

Went for the fibre (to the cabinet) option with adsl delivery to the house. Openreach engineer turned up as booked, albeit an hour late. But certainly knew what he was doing and had me up and running an hour later. Had it a week. Impressed with speed - 36 MB download, 10MB upload as measured with speedtest.net. Seems very reliable. Very happy right now.

My SSE Internet went off late one evening almost two weeks ago. The status light on the router was a constant red and the Internet light was flashing red. I telephoneed SSE early the next morning. I was asked to carry out various tests on the router (including a pin reset), which I did but it made no difference. I rang SSE each day for a week (after waiting up to 30+ minutes to connect with an agent, I was again asked to carry out various tests from my home. Additional tests were carried out by SSE agents. Eventually it was decided I needed a new router. This was sent one whole week after my Internet stopped. I connected and set up the new router, following the instructions to the letter. The instructions said if this doesn't resolve the matter, phone the SSE helpline, which I did. After more discussions with SSE agents it was decided I needed an Openreach engineer visit to check the lines. SSE then told me that Openreach needed the MAC code of my new router, which I gave them. I later got a call back from SSE saying Openreach claim their lines are working but the router is "stuck" in "config" mode. I don't really know what this means so I asked to speak to an SSE manager. The manager said he would talk direct with the Openreach technical people to see what was going on. The manager later called me back and said the problem was due to SSE rolling out a change or migration from its current suppliers to Vodafone causing the routers to malfunction. He said technical teams were working on fixing this problem. When asked he didn't know how long this would take. Reluctantly I said I would stay with SSE for a few more weeks, because I was told changing suppliers would take 17 to 19 days anyway and he thought the problem may be solved by then.
If this is a National rollout by SSE, had anyone else experienced this problem? My 18 months contract with SSE is only about 9 months in. I am still paying SSE for a service which I am not receiving.

NEVER GO WITH SSE BROADBAND If I could put zero then I would have done, been on SSE broadband for 18 months, wish I never joined. From the first month onwards I have had nothing but problems, broadband is so slow, all I get is no connection, I phoned up they said its my pc, luckily I know about computers, so then line was not working etc etc, really have had enough of SSE broadband and no advisors seem to know how to solve the problems, am paying up early just to get away from SSE, never experienced such a bad service, am going back to SKY

Very poor ADSL service, customer services is non-existent unless you wish to stay on the phone for close to 30 minutes listening to Nat King Cole before you get to a real person. Constant dropouts, high latency issues whilst playing PC games (WoW etc) extreme lag & rubber banding. Overall very displeased with service. In other words AVOID THIS ISP LIKE THE PLAGUE...

The only problem I had was with openreach getting my line connected. my activation date went by and still no service. my account was upscaled to a manager who rang me everyday with updates from openreach. my line was finally connected 6 days late. not sse fault at all. at the end of it a £50 credit was put on my account and my broadband is stable at 68mps. Customer service is good

I’ve been with SSE since April 2018 when I relocated from Yorkshire. I cannot fault the service I’ve received.
I constantly achieve the average speeds advertised and am on a rolling monthly contract so if I wanted to (which I don’t) I could cancel with no termination fee.
There have been occasional outages, but these were rare and beyond SSE’s control as large geographical areas were affected at the time.
I’ve always got through to customer services without too long a wait and have found them to be very courteous and helpful, on the rare occasions that I’ve had contact them.
I live in a smallish village in Cumbria so I’m not sure if this is why I get such good service, compared to bigger conurbations where demand for internet services may be higher.
WiFi coverage is good with just 2 blind spots in a 4 bedroomed detached house.
Value for money has always been good.
I did however change the DNS settings on my smartblu-ray player as I began to have problems streaming when using SSE’s DNS address, I expect they were traffic managing, however my service has recently been upgraded to truly unlimited with no traffic management.
I’ve done regular comparisons with other providers but haven’t changed because the costs savings would be minimal and why risk going with another provider when I’ve received such a good service?!

    THE WORST BROADBAND PROVIDER!!!
THE WORST! LOW PRICES FOR LACK OF SERVICE!

They said I owe them £120 because I’m leaving

I had NO BROADBAND CONNECTION SINCE THE START!

SENT ME MISLEADING LETTERS SAYING IM SPENDING TOO MUCH ON PHONE CALLS

I HAVE NEVER TOUCHED THE PHONE

After 40 minutes of waiting I have spoken to Katie on the phone yesterday and cancelled my DIRECT DEBIT WITH THEM WITH THE BANK AFTERWARDS and was told by the banker himself that this happens a lot, especially coming from SSE!

I WAS TOLD I WASNT IMPORTANT BECAUSE I’M NOT VULNERABLE but me and my family ARE!

They told me that I WILL HAVE TO STAY WITH THEM FOR THE NEXT 60 days to clear the charges.

There was no questions asked about my state and my lack of vulnerability was assumed.

    DONT JOIN THEM!
    They don’t care about customers!
    They only care about money!
    THEY LIE!

Nearly switched from Sky until Sky advised to look at Fibre Broadband connection charge which can be from £30 to £60 approx. It's in the small print. Naughty as I thought SSE was above that.

I wrote first review of SSE Broadband on 22 October 2015 because my switch over was a disastrous, tedious and it took 6 working weeks all together.
My contract was taken on the 18 September and Broadband started working finally after many phone calls to the customer services & many complaints on the 2nd November .
I was without broadband for 5 and half weeks.
On the 9th October I called the customer services and was assured that my router will be sent to me in the next 7-10 days and broadband will work. I was very polite, and a lovely lady at the call center told me that she would fail a complaint, because I was waiting 3 weeks.
12 days later, after 25 min of waiting to speak to customer service, I was told that my broadband order has not even been placed. That they will look into the fault on my line and someone would call me back. No one called me back, I had to spend another 30 min, waiting to be connected to the customer services. I wasn’t getting of the phone until I spoke to the supervisor with assurances.
They use BT engineers, so they depend on their scheduling of repairs – another delay.
After BT engineer repaired the physical fault on the line, I waited another week for the router to arrive and for the broadband to go live.
First week broadband speed was very low - on average it was between 4,6 Mb download speed up to 5,4 Mb. The contract is for 17 Mb download speed, I was explained that first week is stabilising period, and that in reality in the future I will be receiving between 5 and 8 Mb depending on my area. Today is 22nd November and speed is 10,8 Mb. I had 3 days last week of speeds between 1,8 and 2,5Mb but this resolved itself without having to contact SSE Broadband customer services.
The advantages are: call centers are 0800 number, staff is polite and well trained, very good deal for broadband and phone rental.
Disadvantages: incredibly long and troublesome change-over, call centres closed on Sundays, phone line Service Charge and Access charge, details below***

If you want to spare yourself agony of waiting TO COMPLETE THE SWITCH OVER from your old broadband supplier, call SSE as soon as your phone line is connected and check on your order status. Call every day – is my advice.

***Depending on the package you choose 0845 & 0870 calls are either inclusive up to 70 minutes during the same inclusive periods as your call package or are charged :
Unbundled Tariff Numbers beginning with 084, 087, 09 and 118 are charged as the sum of two elements: a ’Service Charge’ and an ’Access Charge’. The ’Service Charge’ is as published by the business being called while the ’Access Charge’ is 6.9p per minute. 0845 and 0870 calls remain non-chargeable (no Access Charge or Service Charge will apply) for the first 70 minutes,
for the relevant periods of your calls package and calls to these type of numbers will not be subject to a set-up fee.
When not inclusive in the package, 0845 calls cost a maximum of 13.90p for a one minute call and 0870 calls cost a maximum of 19.90p for a one minute call for all these packages.
