We wanted to get Broadband with SSE so when we called they said that some one would call us back that evening or the next day That never happened I think there customer service is very poor for trying to help get new customers. I did read that SSE customer serive was bad that is very true we won't be going with them

I am on a fixed rate ADSL line which expires in March.
I wanted to renew and after making numerous attempts to discuss and when I eventually made contact was referred to no fewer than three advisors I was told I would have to pay a further £10 per month in line with the fibre fixed price which
I cannot get (and do not want)
Customer service ia appalling
I do not recommend

After an initially difficult set up (Preserve it's worth it!) SSE have been a brilliant broadband provider. Having the fibre package my speeds match the estimations given to me before I signed up as well as exceeding them at times. Customer services are excellent but there are sometimes awfully long waits, sometimes in the region of ≥45 minutes so could be inconvenient for some.
Been with SSE for 5 months now with no issues, highly recommend to anyone. But take note that you may need to chase them up during your set up; having called them mulitple times I once discovered my order had been cancelled by mistake and I had to start over but overall there weren't any major (I.e. Days not weeks) delays.

Moved from Sky to SSE, what a great decision and great deal.
Everything happened as planned and at the arranged times, I have absolutely no reservations in recommending this service and thank SSE for a hassle free changeover and look forward to being a customer for many years to come

Having just paid £96 to exit my contract early, I can attest to the fact that SSE broadband is not fit for purpose. By their own admission, I've never managed to get more than 8mpbs and I live in inner city Birmingham, so I can only imagine what it's like if you live in a rural area. Uploading anything is impossible, streaming is woeful and trying to use Skype or facetime is completely futile. It is simply not fit for purpose. Don't waste your money, go elsewhere. This from somebody who's decided to pay an exit fee in order to be rid of this cheap, shoddy, laughable service.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
Horrible company with horrible managers that dont give a fig for what customers experience during one of their MANY down times!
I have video recording of a call where one of the managers forces us to disclose personal and embaressing details and then repeadely tells us he doesnt understand why having our money stretched even further would be hard for us right now!
Seems like these FAT CAT managers just sit in their ivory towers and have NO care for how their customers feel or things they go through as a result OF SSE!

Had problems with my phone from the start and broadband, they transferred all my calls to my mobile saying it wouldn't cost me or callers a penny, but I got a massive bill and so did someone else, my phone was never fixed and I called them to ask about this bill, they said I was refusing to pay my bill, I said I wasn't, but the woman said that I was refusing to pay it and as we spoke on the phone I noticed my Internet had gone off, so I told her and she said she had switched it off, then after the call I needed to call social services regarding my Lifeline pendant but my phone has been switched off, I have had letters sent to me saying that I am using my phone quite a bit more than usual, how can I be when its not on? Also one letter is dated 4th October 2018 and one 9th October 2018 saying I'm using my phone a lot, I'll let the scientists in America know not to continue their study in Time Travel because SSE have beaten them to it.

My internet connection would regularly drop out 5-10 times a week. Usually for 1-10 minute periods. While SSE customer service was excellent, the issue clearly lies in-house as BT never found a fault with the line. Perhaps another good example of an initially excellent provider (PlusNet) getting too bloated and not upgrading their service to cope with it.
Incidentally, switched to a competitor and haven't had a single disconnect in over a month.

Just moved to their ultra fast fibre broadband two weeks ago. It's ultra bad. Worse than standard copper ADSL we moved from and incapable of even delivering Netflix to a single device in the home reliably. The line is capable of receiving speeds of 79mbps according to our open reach installer. We're about 25m from the fibre cabinet on a proper copper line, but we're getting about 5mbps. Ultra fast? Ultra lying thieves.

Changeover handled very efficiently SSE arranged it for 20 June and it was delivered and installed by Open Reach on that day. Very impressed with the service and am certainly recommending SSE broadband to my friends. Has reduced my broadband/phone bills by two thirds.
Very happy customer. Thank you SSE

Completely rubbish been with them for 13 days 3 of what still had no internet from start up. Called today to cancel as now I’ve been kicked out of my home and are homeless on the phone for an hour before speaking to anyone, now I’m having to pay £209 to cancel even tho I have no where to even wipe my own ass! The cancellation fee is the whole contract day light robbery! Will never recommend!!!

Worst Internet provider, ever. Problems after problems, engineer after engineer, router after router, still never managed to fix the problem, in the end I left because it took too much time and money too get this issue fixed, I had to wait 30 minutes for a phone line everytime I rang, and to wait and explain to all theses different people each time I phoned, really did me no favours thinking I'd be better off with sse with no month contract, but I was kidding myself. Worst Internet provider ever. Waste of time.

This is a review for SSE broadband. I experienced a total loss of service after upgrading to fibre broadband. After nine days of multiple calls to SSE and many failed promises (including from the manager Alexander who promised the earth and delivered nothing!) by SSE to return my calls and keep me updated. I gave up and cancelled the service altogether. SSE have a lot to learn about decent levels of customer service and keeping promises it makes to its customers!

Broadband reliability is awful. Mine has been down for five days. The wait time to contact customer support is at least forty minutes and often I’m on hold for over an hour. When I finally get through they usually refer me to their specialist team who promise to contact me later. They never do (I’m beginning to believe they don’t exist). The last time I managed to get through I was told another THREE days that will mean no internet for EIGHT days. If you need reliable internet AVOID SSE

The worst broadband experience I ever had. I have tried many : talk talk, BT, plus net, virgin, SKY during more than 20 years. Unfortunately SSE are by far the worst. My games are continually streaming even if no one else is on the WiFi, I am in a town with limited choices of providers at the present but I had BT which was great but due to the monthly package SSE offered I decided to go with them, mistake, wrong choice. I will soon switch back after 5 months been with SSE.

Wow, what can I say. Worst broadband provider ever and incompetent liars. My mum was hitting 2 mbps max, which isn't good for me WFH because I use video conferencing. We called to ask them to leave or to fix the issue. Instead, my mother (her mistake) signed up to their fibre (thinking it would be quicker than moving). My mum asked several times if we could leave no hassle if we were happy - he said yes, within 14 days no strings attached AND that it would be done within a week.
In the meantime, they sent an engineer to look at the phone line as that wasn't working. The engineer fixed that and we asked him about why we had only 2mbps and he did some fiddling and fixed it so we were at least getting 9mbps.
Low and behold we call them after a week because we didnt get an email telling us they switched us (as promised, alongside new contract). No contact. We call them and they it will take another week.
2 weeks later (time we could have switched to a different provider) we had to call again. They had switched it, but we were getting NO internet now.
We have been on the phone to them for four days straight. No internet for me as a consultant means I lose out on money. They have not been able to fix the issue and so we tried to cancel, but it turns out the salesman lied to us: we cannot cancel our contract. As I said, my mum asked twice. Remember, he also lied about if they could fix the previous 2mbps and said no - had they done that, we could have at least 9mbps better than nothing.
Disgusting company, horrendous sales team. One lady we spoke to was helpful but that doesn't solve the problem. Wifi is dropping constantly rendering it nearly unusable.
Now they are saying we can only cancel if they don't fix it within a 'reasonable' time. What's a reasonable time to you? Because for me it is unreasonable that I still cannot work 4 days after making a complaint.
DO NOT USE THEM! Don't make our mistake.

The transfer from BT was not bad, only thing to fault, was the engineer did not turn up, rang up customer service who advised everything had been done and the engineer did not have to attend the property. Setting up was easy and compare to BT who I was paying £50 for the same service, this is a lot better deal, same service but cheaper price. If you do have BT, I would recommend to change to SSE.

I am so frustrated with this company. Been with them since 2015, all was good until Ovo came on the scene. What a complete cock up!! Been waiting since July 2022 to get them to send me a bill. D.D was changed to Ovo Energy Ltd, but has remained inactive since July. Have been trying to contact them for 3 days. Phone ringing out continually or you get cut off, appalling customer service! Found another number to ring(one of many I might add),and was actually answered. Very nice, polite man, who has assured me my bill will be taken out in Nov. He apologised for the cock up, although its not actually his fault, but takes the flack and frustration from SSE customers. So, I will wait with baited breath, and hope, my bills will actually, be taken out my bank. Have had advice from Citizans Advice, who said they were in breach of contract under common law, and maybe a phone call to Trading Standards wouldn't go amiss. Let's hope the gentleman I spoke to today,is giving me the right information, as I don't really want to go down the legal route if it can be avoided. It's amazing really when you think they chase thousands of clients that don't pay their bills, when, all I want to do is actually pay mine!!!! Let's hope Talk Talk will be better, but I doubt it, we shall see.

Even with the "heavy user" fibre optic package Traffic management kills your speed at peak times making it virtually unusable if you want to download anything, I have had speeds as low as 17kb/s.

Stay away from this company. Initially, for the first 60 days I had excellent fibre broadband speeds 40mb down/10mb up. I had no reason to leave under their '60 days happiness guarantee'.
Since the first two months have passed I am now experiencing multiple days without internet and the times that they decide to connect me I am only getting 4mb down. This is clear breach of contract of the minimum speed that was agreed by both parties.
The customer service is rude and ignorant, numerous attempts to fix this issue have failed and they have stated it is due to my equipment. This is not the case.
I got the account credited £5 to 'buy a new microfilter' when there is nothing wrong with the one I got.
If you want a reliable Internet service with top consistent speeds, then please do not waste your time with these incompetent cowboys.
Better off looking elsewhere.

Word of Advice - AVOID THIS COMPANY!
Never had a reliable connection and speed were less than contractually obligated speed.
Complained several times, no resolution.
I am taking them to the Regulator as they say I owe monies out of contract which they breached.
Good luck with that SSE, you wont get a penny out of me!
DO NOT USE!!!

Was with EE on non-fiber. Kept disconnecting and terrible hour long calls to fix. Switch to optic SSE, no problems at all, getting advertised speeds and no drop outs whatsoever. Very happy and it is cheaper than EE as well. Set up was very easy.

They seem to limit upload/download speed to less than 50% the regular speed almost every day.
I'm a freelance graphic designer and this entire outfit has caused me to be even slower than the 35mbit fibre I had with sky, much less the 78mbit speed I can get for about an hour a day before it throttles me back.
I read online that the services are actually provided by Daisy Wholesale.
I've today written a complaint to SSE and delivered via recorded postage. At the same time I'm bringing the matter to the attention of the Ombudsman and Ofcom.
I suggest eveyone else experiencing underhanded throttling also do the same. It takes 10 minutes of your time and right now it's critical that no new customers are onboarded with SSE Unlimited Ultrafast Fibre without knowing the material facts which will effect their daily use of the service. I thought we were past this kind of rubbish but now we're all locked in to an 18 month contract with them.
I don't torrent, download significant amounts of data, but it seems that services such as teamviewer are seen as p2p and as such it's impossible to use for even 30 minutes logging in to my desktop machine upstairs to fetch files before these SOB's throttle the connection.
We're livid. They have picked the wrong person to target with fraudulent advertising of services.

I moved from Immediately, which was a great service but became too expensive at £37 per month. I received the router and plugged it in the same as my Plusnet box through the openreach box. My speeds varied drastically and I wasn't at all happy. I found out I could miss out the openreach box and connect the fibre phoneline direct into the sse technicolour box by setting it up for VSL. Immediately saw a big improvement in speed and am now happier with SSE

It started badly and went downhill from there, on the day of connection waited for an engineer all day, by about 5pm I lost my patience so called SSE was told that they didn't need to send one and I just needed to connect my router - so day wasted then!
I connected the router and then waited....nothing...so I duly called SSE, I was then told due to an administrative error my broadband order had not gone through and it may take up to a month to get connected.
Obviously I got very annoyed at this and to cut a long story short four days later they managed to sort it out, so problem solved....
However, the speeds and reliability of the broadband was appalling so two new routers later they offered to cancel my broadband which I duly took up, I then went to Virgin and tried to carry my number over I then received a letter from SSE informing me I owned them £130 due to early cancellation......
Luckily my notes on their system back up the fact regarding the cancellation so the bill will be waived, however the numerous phone calls I have made to them ranging between 20 - 50 minutes of being on hold just add to the frustration.
They just are not set up to offer broadband from the infrastructure to being able to mange the customer service - I would avoid!

Awful customer service and broadband is not reliable. After multiple issues we decided to cancel earlier. There is a waiver for the cancellation fee if you’re not happy with the service but they refused to waive the fee as they felt they hadn’t be given a chance to correct the issues. This was after multiple issues. When I checked the internet speed and noticed it was consistently about 1 third of what we’d been paying for I decided enough was enough. So had to pay £172 to cancel a service I wasn’t receiving. Avoid like the plague.
