If you are wise you will avoid this disreputable company. Their promises are not to be relied on and their broadband sub standard. Be warned ....

My broadband stopped working on Sunday and today it is Thursday and it is still off line. Now they are saying it will be next week. The service that you are supposed to be providing has again been shown to be substandard when it comes to making international calls, which are included in the package included in my contract. Even though the calls are supposed to be included in the package, I have been charged extra for them on multiple occasions. After the first time I called and was given a refund, but since then it has happened in my last two bills.

It is very difficult to get in touch with customer services or technical support. After being left on your for hours, sometimes I might get connected to one of your workers, who then may or may not be able to help with the problem. However, testing response times by calling the number to join Origin Broadband, I was connected almost immediately, which brings questions about your willingness to help existing customers.

It is almost impossible to contact customer service again as they put you on hold for hours. They don't provide another way to contact them such an email address. They do have a Facebook page where I asked for help, but although I got a reply from them, nothing has been done regarding my issues with billing for the phone calls or with my broadband service.

    Do not purchase Origin broadband!
My router didn't turn up before my go live date. As I could not use the service I tried to cancel to be told that my phone line was live so I had to pay out the years contract even though the line is for internet that I cannot use.
Once I did get online the connection is abysmal!! It buffers or every day and drops off entirely every couple of days.
Origin are not remotely bothered about my issues, they were only interested in getting me signed into the contract.

Beware of this terrible company. The only reason I chose origin was because it was the fastest in my area upto 74mB ( a lie ) so I ring them to ask about the speed after 13 days and was told the fastest speed I could get in my area was 27mB. So I do a few more checks and other companies say I can get upto 27mB which is true. I went back on the origin site and dos a speed check for my area and phone number and it came back again at upto 74!!! This isn't true and is very misleading. I rang them again and eventually got through to cancelation who said I can't cancel as I'm out of the cooling off period and he became very snotty when I said from the connection date. Now I know why they take 16 days to connect you. Was told I'll have to pay the full cost of the contract, we'll see. So tried to log onto my origin account about 30 minutes later and couldn't access it at all. So cancelled my direct debit when I got home. Now will see what happens as am willing to go all the way to make sure they can't take money for miss selling a service. Either that or I'll be making a trip upto unit 9 ;-).

Absolutely diabolical - Thankfully I'm 14 months into my 18 month contract so I don't have that long until I can leave this dismal company.

I signed up for £20/month 37mb/s fiber deal and I often have speeds of less than 4mb/s (currently 1.30mb/s download). I live in Sheffield about 2 miles from the centre so its not as if I'm in a rural location.

I have complained often at the start of my contract and jumped through all the hoops only to have a continued poor & interupted service.

The call centre folk are polite enough but they can only do very little to help until they have ticked every box on their question sheet and then maybe, just maybe your call will get raised with 3rd line support. You will then have to spend another hour on the phone trying to diagnose the fault and this can only be done during the day because any evening support has no clue whats going on.

Fair play to anyone who manages to get what they're paying for as on paper it sounds ridiculously cheap. It's just my reality is very far from the figures promised.

The speed is slow and the connection is unreliable. The customer service is like nothing I've ever seen before - you can wait on the phone for literally hours before someone answers (DMing via Twitter is best). Also, incredibly they managed to change my IP by mistake so it appeared I was in the Netherlands! Whilst this is great if I want watch things that are normally unavailable to me on Netflix, this is also very helpful in other ways! When I contacted them about it their response was pretty much "yeah stuff like this happens all the time, haha!". The customer service representatives themselves are very nice and generally helpful also the cost is insanely cheap. But if I could do my time again, I certainly wouldn't go to them.

Well I tried to move to Origin but they just couldn't somehow manage it. They were able to quickly take my payment online but then it just went from good to bad. I was switching from Sky to Origin and the switch never happened. After four calls and ten plus emails to Origin they still couldn't tell me why they had not setup the transfer for same day uninterrupted broadband.
They tried to blame openreach saying they had to switch the line after install. Total lies as I have an active line and have for years. I called three days before switch was supposed to happen to ask about it and the fact no router received and they had no answers. They claim to have excellent support but they have yet to call me to refund the first payment. Avoid these guys if you want uninterrupted service

Incredibly disappointed with my experience with Origin. I was with them for over a year before cancelling. The speed and reliability was poor, with streaming tv services constantly buffering. At least four times in the year I had to call up to report that the Wi-Fi had gone completely for no reason. When I called to cancel they said that all broadband services to my address would have the same issues, which was not true, I was with Sky for about 6 years with no problems. Then, they didn't bother telling me that as I was cancelling I would need to return the router. This also wasn't mentioned in the cancellation email they sent. When I phoned to query why I was being charged £40 they said it was because I had to return the router. Apparently this is in the terms and conditions, but I pointed out that given the high cost, why would this not be mentioned in the phone call when I cancelled. This is blatantly a scam because they know most people won't read the terms and conditions.

Everything you have read is true! Do not go anywhere near this provider they are appalling in every respect. By far the worst company I have ever dealt with for broadband.

I switch every year to get better deals and this year tried to switch to Origin. Every other provider has managed the switch fine ... not so here.

It starts with the fancy customer portal, which was updated to say order received but never any further for 2 weeks. There was no communication by SMS or email at all, not even an order confirmation. They have no email or online support so the only way to contact them is to call and face 20-30 minute wait times. Once you call, the phone staff are lovely but clearly have no idea of what is going on. They always have to ring the 'provisioning team' before providing excuses and delays.

2 weeks after placing the initial order I had my line cut off by the old provider. But I had still received no communication at all from Origin. After 5 phone calls to Origin over 4 days, and repeated promises of callbacks and updates that never arrived, I was told that my line had been inadvertently disconnected (they blamed openreach) and that it would be another 14 days before I could have a new line installed, at my own expense.

At this point I cancelled any contract with them and took out a new contract with a real supplier, who immediately emailed to give me an installation date.

The rank incompetence displayed in not managing a simple provider switch without errors, plus the complete lack of communication at any stage, the inability to give any kind of answer on my order status, and the suggestion that I should pay for their error both financially and by waiting a further 2 weeks without internet represents a complete failure at every stage and in every conceivable way.

PLease learn my lesson and do not choose them as your provider. You will regret it.

Been overcharging me for months which was credited to my account, later that same day tried to take money out of my account. So MORE bank charges.. and today they cut me off! So I'm unable to do any coursework for the next 24 hours through their error. Honestly the worst broadband!

Least reliable connection I've ever had from an internet service provider. I'd happily go back to TalkTalk from Origin Broadband. Customer Service gets an extra star because they're polite, but the technical support department is unable to offer any useful explanation or solution for the awful quality and reliability of the connection, and blame it all on the fact that the connection is wireless, as apparently my neighbours' toaster being used can result in my internet connection slowing down or cutting out... Also took about an hour to be connected to the second level of technical support. After this contract is up I'm confident I could get a better service by picking a random ISP from a list...

This probably has to be one of the worst internet providers I've had to deal with. Connection constantly cuts out, sometimes for hours or it just jumps on and off every two minutes. Earlier today, I tried downloading an app of the GooglePlay store, it genuinely took me 5 minutes because the connection kept jumping on and off. Don't get me started on the game I tried downloading the other day. YouTube was struggling to load a 240p video earlier this week. And all of this is AFTER we switched to the 'fiber optic' package. We tried calling the tech line, see if we could get these issues sorted, we were told that they cannot speak to us because we, as tenants, are not listed 'as trustees' as it's our landlord who sorted the wifi. I don't blame the employees, it's a rule, not their fault. But it's a stupid rule because they refused to even check if anything was wrong with the connection.

Sure, sometimes it runs smoothly and we don't have any issues, but to put it in perspective, I am writing this off my 3G.

Speed no where near what was advised, been on hold over the past 2 days for over 3 1/2 hours trying to sort. Over the 4 calls keep getting told I need to speak to tier 2 support and then left on hold for over an hour with no answer. Finally got through to find out they have put me on the wrong broadband package and even thoigh im paying for faster speeds im on the lowest speed broadband. They cant fix as the office is closed and will get someone to call me back tomorrow. Fingers crossed as they promised a call back today and i still had ring up.

I should have believe what some other said about this company. I have never come across such a poor service company. three issues so far: (1) They overcharged for £60. (2) They promised they delivery £100 shopping voucher and failed. (3) The broadband router is cheap and network is unreliable. Worse still, they don't response to your email (even to complaint email). first two issues took over 3 months for them to resolved eventually. Long story short, wasting a lot of time and they admitted that there is no reason for them not to check emails and act! I am still working with them on the 3rd issue, it has been over 3 weeks, no joy. customer service does not look at the previous correspondence and you have to keep repeating yourself. performance is significantly worse then other company I ever used including other small broadband provider! :(

Absolute trash. Line speeds of half what I used to get with Plusnet. When I tried to get their tech support to help, many hours were wasted with incompetent staff who can only read off a script, and when they reach the end of the script they just stop replying. Even when they said they were going to fix the line, nothing happened. It takes hours on their "live" chat for a 5 minute conversation, and they don't even bother reading your replies. Might as well talk to a brick wall.

Seriously - avoid origin like your life depends on it. They are the worst broadband providers I have ever had the misfortune of joining.

Just transferred to Origin broadband and line rental and getting through to customer service is a very, very long call with a frankly irritating hold messenger. The hold music is OK but as you wait a longtime it is on a loop. The second query was rectified regarding a debit made which should not have been but left feeling mildly aggrieved as on both occasions the situation could have been avoided with better communication from Origin thus negating the need to wait on hold for over 30 minutes.

    Shocking company.

It took 2 weeks for them to connect me and when they did, the internet was extremely slow to the point where using multiple devices was near enough impossible.

The cancellation process is ridiculous, they send you a bill and give you zero information. Their portal is useless. As a result you have to ring them, stay on hold for over 30 minutes and pay by card over the phone.

    AVOID.

I never normally take the time to write reviews unless I have received exceptional service or an extremely poor service.

Previously, I was with Sky but because our contract expired I decided to shop around for something cheaper. Origin Broadband came up in many broadband comparison websites and I decided to give them a go - what a mistake!

Placed an order with them on 30 December 2016 and was given an activation date of 17 January 2017. On 16 January 2017, I still had not received a router so I gave them a call. I was on hold for 78 minutes when somebody finally answered. I was assured that my router had been posted today and would reach me tomorrow (in time for my activation date).

Still no router - I made constant calls to chase it. I was on hold for extremely long periods of time (90 minutes +) on some occasions. Finally, a router arrived on 02 February 2017 - they should never have bothered. I've had constant problems - the Internet keeps dropping and only works for a maximum of 30 minutes in any one day! Extremely poor.

Tried to contact Technical Support on a number of occasions (again, being on hold for long periods of time) - to cut a long story short, they did all the tests and I am now on router number 4 - still no service! I became extremely fed up so I asked to cancel - only to be told that this wasn't possible as I am in contract.

I wrote a complaint using their online web form and was told today that I can come out of contract 'fee-free'.

The reason I gave 'Customer service' two stars is because when you do manage to speak to someone, you can tell that they are trying to help. A lot of the people are new - for example, a call I made yesterday to chase my complaint lasted 36 minutes simply because the lady was new to the role and didn't have a clue what to do.

My advice is stay away - they are cheap for a reason. Because I had no Internet connection, I had to go out and buy myself a USB dongle with a mobile provider whilst I was liaising with them on cancelling.

    Avoid at all costs.

Btw, if you haven't already figured it out, this review was posted because I received an extremely poor service...

Truly awful support. Seriously, brain dead and extraordinarily slow. I have spent a total of NINE hours with their "live" chat team. After the first 3 hours they identified a fault on the line and told me it would be fixed in 48 hours. 3 weeks later and 6 more hours with support, nothing has happened. Every time I go back to support, the morons just read off the tech support script, and when I tell them repeatedly that I have already done this and they have already identified the fault, they just read the next line on the script. Their staff are incapable of independent thought - they should just use an AI bot, at least that could reply more than once every 30 minutes!

Truly, truly dreadful company. Avoid like your life depends on it.

A dreadful service provider. I am frequently without internet access. My router came unconfigured. I have had to manually reset the settings for my router 3 times in 6 months. I was on hold for 45 minutes, then was cut off instead of transferred to another department. I was then on hold for a further 50 minutes, trying to get through to someone. I have been overcharged, told i would receive a refund, but am still waiting for it, 4 months later. I am disgusted by the cancellation policy - pay the full balance of the fixed term (i asked for, and was told i had signed up for, a rolling contract, not a fixed term) and £25 extra for the priviledge. When I enquired whether i was better off leaving the contract to run out (monthly payments instead of an immediate lump sum and to avoid the cancellation fee), I was told that any calls made from this address for the remainder of my contract would be charged to me, regardless of the new occupier changing provider. I am appalled by this shambolic business. I would strongly advise you to avoid origin broadband.

As we're once again in our second hour of being on hold to Origin Broadband support I thought I'd use my time in purgatory more productively and write a review of the company.

We moved house in November of 2016 to find that our regular broadband provider didn't supply fibre to our new area. We'd been with Virgin for years and are heavy internet users, so we were worried when looking for a new service provider. We searched a few companies to see which were offering the best price for the available speeds in our area.

Enter Origin Broadband, a Yorkshire based ISP with seemingly fair prices. For some reason no other ISP, including Origin, offered a fibre connection to our city centre location. We eventually settled for an ADSL connection with Origin as they had the best prices and they were somewhat local.

The installation was all but hassle free, the long wait for the engineer to arrive, and the engineer not actually being able to do anything as the router took so long to turn up. The engineer arrived after 2 weeks to ready the house for the still absent router. He spent 5 minutes inspecting the BT wall outlet, then left while explaining that we could just 'plug it all in' when the router arrived. Finally the router arrived, and we did just that. Nothing. We spent around an hour on hold to support before being connected. Support took us through all of the correct router settings which the engineer was unable to set up. Then, after around 30 minutes of going through everything over the phone we were finally online.

For the first six months, excluding the painful adjustment from our old ~250mb/s download speed to a laughable ~18mb/s, everything was relatively stable. We'd have the occasional disconnect, but it was infrequent and understandable for an ADSL connection.

If the experience were to end there the stars awarded in this review would have held a solid 3 out of 5. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. We've had such a bad service with Origin as an ISP that, for the first time in my life, I've made a point to sit down and review a company in the hopes that it saves at least one person from wasting their time and money as we have. For those of you still wondering, we managed to get through to first line support. We're now on hold to second line support after they couldn't help us.

A couple of months ago we started to experience our connection dropping out every 30-40 minutes within a 6 hour window starting around 6pm. Not only this, but our connection would bottom out when downloading files at a capped 256kb/s speed. This meant that, even if the connection stayed active, it would be virtually impossible to use until the download was complete, to the point where it would take 5-6 minutes to send a message on Facebook messenger.

In an attempt to fix the issues we called around 6 times in total. Each time on hold for around 2 hours, to the point where my housemate and I took 30 minute shifts of listening to the hold music as it was slowly driving us insane.

Over the numerous phone calls we were told during 3 of them to remove the 'test plate' from our BT wall outlet and record our connection and any drop-outs. They would then call us back 24-48 hours later to check in on us. We have never received a phone call from Origin.

We were also told that an engineer would be coming to visit, he never turned up.

We were told that, after following up about the engineer not arriving, that they were going to send us a new router. For some reason they believed that we no longer needed an engineer, they decided that a new router was the way to go. If the new router didn't work then they would once again attempt an engineer visit.

We were told that our frequent disconnects were the result of 'micro surges' in our area (apparently coming from street lights turning on on our street), despite us having all of the electrical equipment in our home surge protected, and the issues persisting over a 6 or so hour period.

We were told, in our most recent phone call, that the outages are to do with some issues that BT are having in our area. Which would explain the issue had it not being persistent for almost 2 months at this stage.

All of our phone calls were taken by different staff reading from our file, which apparently had all of our issues and the tests they'd already carried out. This would be believable if we weren't asked to carry out the same tests numerous times to lead to the same result, while at the same time being told that the issue was coming from a different place than the last Origin support member told us it was coming from.

I've given the customer service 2 stars as, while they are seemingly understaffed, the staff members themselves were friendly and dealt with our frustration in a reasonable manner. Their major let down was a lack of consistency. They could have told me straight that they had no idea where the issue was coming from and that they'd do everything they could to fix it, and that would have been fine. Instead I ended up being fed different information each time I picked up the phone.

I'd strongly advise anybody to avoid this company. I've been with numerous ISPs over the years. AOL, TalkTalk, Sky, BT, Virgin. Origin broadband are by far the worst in both product and service.

Not only do services not work as described when first entering into a contract, but their customer support when things go wrong is next to none. From what I can tell they're trying to be as cost effective as possible by providing a bare bones service and stripping customer support of the resources required to deal with the barrage of calls they get from customers who are left paying for something which doesn't work.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I have today gone live with another provider and hopefully free of this horrendous company.
I paid a whole year in advance for broadband and a year in advance for anytime calls. They started billing me again after 9 months.
They cant get anything right. They dont reply to emails and they leave you waiting up to an hour on hold. Their broadband speed is slower than any provider I have had. Avoid at all cost. They are the cheapest for a very good reason. They are rubbish and will stress you out for the whole time your with them. I have today cancelled direct debits to them as they are now trying to bill me for Jan Feb 2018 even though I moved to sky today. They owe me money. AVOID

Truly shocking. I haven't had a broadband provider this bad for a very long time. On hold for over 1 hour every time I call. Even at 2:30 / 3:00 in the morning. Broadband keeps dropping, it's a problem with origins servers but they won't admit it and blame it on Phantom BT works. Only 3months in and I want to leave badly.

My line is already only 5mb, but for paying for 17mb they couldnt pull that off. After raising it with them through webchat they looked into it, but never heard from them.
Then web chat disappeared, and i get cutouts daily. to call, you need to be on hold around 5 years and they replied to 1 email in 5 days, not giving me an answer, and its been weeks on my replies to that.

Just avoid. They're a minor cost saving for awful Asus routers and tragically inadequate customer service staffing.

If you want your internet to not work half the time, zero customer support, a very cheap and unsuitable router, all for one cheap price, pick these boys. You will also not have internet for 2 months when you switch because they will mess up the switch over. AVOID.

P.S. Don't let your flatmate pick cheap when you both need the internet a lot.

Really disappointed with this service. Signed up after reading mixed views, but mainly for the cheap price. We placed the original order a month ago and we still don't have wifi up and running. The initial delivery is slow, the call answer time is slow, the help chat is slow; basically impossible to sort out. Incredibly frustrating.

    Oh dear, huge mistake.
Connection is so unrelaible that it is off more than it is on. Origin have sent so many Openreach Enginners that I have a Membership with their Lottery Syndicate. S'Funny that the issues only started with these providers and none of my earlier ones.
After literally months of nonsense I am finally pushed to go elsewhere but I feel I have already been far too tolerant.

The internet is so slow I prefer to use my mobile phone's network. It's not possible to cancel. There is no cooling off period so you will only realise the internet is slow when you can't cancel it anymore. It's just dreadful. It should be illegal to offer broadband connection at that speed.

Buyers Beware. Without question the worst company and customer services, I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I cancelled my broadband from Origin back in November. They continued to take payments from my bank account for another 2 months. Upon discovery, I cancelled the direct debit and called Origin, to which I was told they knew all about the cancellation. . I was told they cannot just electronically transfer the money back to me and that I would have to wait 7-14 days for a cheque to arrive. 2 weeks later I received yet another bill for the forthcoming month. Yet, another phone call to Origin to re cancel the bill and ask about my pending refund and I find myself still waiting for it 3 weeks later.

Took out annual saver! But they split the internet and phone up from starting at same time. While trying to cancel services they kept cutting the phone off! Said they cant start to cancel until 13 month on a 12 month contract!!?? Disgusting company!! Poor customer services!!

I made a complaint as the wifi service provided is shocking. It drops out constantly and because I work at home teaching remotely it is the most frustrating thing. Constant buffering, I paid for the basic which looked reasonable but I get a max of 4mbps which is terrible. My complaint has not been responded to. I wanted to be released from my contract given that I had a service I couldn't use properly. They wanted to charge me. I am so stressed and so unhappy. I will say that the telephone team themselves are pleasant and mostly try to help. Though the consensus was "you get what you get" for some of them. Dissapointed is an understatement.

Really not happy with the service provided by Origin. Everything was slow and unreliable from the start, it took over a month from first contact to getting an internet connection. Despite being quoted 10-14 days, after 15 days there was no information at all so I had to contact them only to find out essentially nothing had been achieved during that time.

Then even after the internet had been connected, we experienced low line speeds and frequent drop outs, in addition to the fact the router they sent was extremely unreliable on WiFi (wired ethernet worked better). I called up several times about the low sync speeds and there was some progress but we never really improved much towards what they said our line was capable of.

I don't know how many hours of my life I have spent in a queue for customer service with Origin, but I think I have lost a significant chunk of my year trying to obtain a decent connection.

I would not recommend Origin, the cheap price is definitely not worth it. Spend a little more to get reliable internet and customer service.

It's been horrible, my 88year old nan had her phone line through origin (part of SSE) then she wanted broadband, to chat with her friends online. It's taken 2 months of me and my brother phoning. She had internet for 2 days and this morning she has had no dialing tone on her landline. I was on the phone to them for over 3 hours. Still no landline. They just keep fobing me off from one service to another. Some of there staff where really rude. None of them are capable of fixing the issue. So now my poor nan has no internet and no landline.

Just been off the phone with them trying to cancel my service because I've had such a bad experience and was told I would have to pay for the rest of my contract and there was no way around it.
    Don't sign up.
Don't try to call (you usually won't get through.
Company is too small to handle so many customers.
