Frequent ADSL line disconnections followed by inability to reconnect. DSL connecting at only 14 megabits when Talktalk was managing 17 megabits. Even so, downloads rarely max out at 14 megabits, usually are around 12 with a big lag from clicking to download something and actually commencing. Annoying for browsing web pages as there's always a slight delay. Their network is rather under specced for the number of customers, I would imagine. Counting the days til I'm released from this contract.

Do not go with them. Seriously don't go with them. They have completely screwed up the transition from BT. We have been left over Christmas and New Year without a phone or broadband. We are going to have to have a new line to correct the issues!
    Seriously don't!!

Switched from Talk Talk to Origin in July 2017 with a promise of ADSL up to 17mb. The maximum download achieved using Origin is never more than 5.9 mb. Talk Talk Down & Up was a couple of Mb faster. It seems Origin use BT openreach so in reality there is not much of a free and open market in the UK as BT wants people to use there equally slow FTTC whilst they fail to bother to upgrade the copper / ally cable network.

This is a good example of "you only get what you pay for".
    For basic standard broadband/calls:
Speed: Half that I got from Plusnet
Customer Service: Seems to be Non-existent!
I cannot recommend this ISP and will be leaving a.s.a.p.

A great start, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Has on occasions taken a while to get through to someone. Start up billing was a bit confusing. Simple instructions to get going.

2 weeks after having it installed my Virgin internet is on its last day and I still haven't had a single successful internet connection with origin.

There customer service department close at 6 on weekdays so you can not get assistance after work. If you phone during work they will tell you that you need to be at the internet connection for them to assist. The package comes with instructions for the default modem but having been sold an upgrade - the instructions do not work for the ASUS AC55u. I also can not speak to anyone on live chat. The automated message says there will be delays because of flooding however they haven't contacted me back a singe time or even given me any evidence anyone is even in the office. So alas another hour will be spent waiting to speak to customer services without ever actually being able to access the internet. AVOID.

The engineer set up the phone line but as he said the modem was "plug and play" didn't set it up even on request. Genuinely bottom tier

I signed up to Origin at the start of November, paying for a year line rental and broadband in advance. Apart from a payment receipt, I received no correspondence from Origin regarding my switch. I had to contact them to arrange the switch date. When this date came, my broadband disconnected from my previous provider but I could not connect to Origin as they hadn't supplied the username and password for the connection. After live chatting online, this was supplied. A few weeks later, my previous provider tells me that only the broadband switched, not the line rental. Therefore, I had to contact Origin again to get this switched. It was done three weeks after the broadband, in which time my previous provider was billing me at their full price. To add salt into the wounds, Origin then sent me an incorrect bill. Not only were they billing me (at a random amount of £9.99 per month) for a period I had already paid for upfront, they included several weeks when my previous supplier was billing me. The telephone service was almost useless when I called to query this bill. Needless to say, I cancelled the direct debit as I have already prepaid for my service. As soon as the contract ends, I will be switching away.

Despite occasionally providing internet access, this company is a total shambles.
Brought into their power without consent, I lament the random payments I have had removed from my bank over the last two months.
I cancelled my contract with SSE, as I was moving home, and have now had to research on my own who origin broadband actually is. I’ve never spoken to them, being cut off twice after being on hold for over an hour.
It is shameful that this kind of service can survive. I have no doubt that there are thousands, if not millions, just like me who have randomly lost hundreds of pounds to this company we’ve never heard of.

My mother is a 95 year old pendant alarm user. Last month she was switched from Ovo to Origin, with no warning. She only uses her telephone occasionally (3.5 minutes of calls last month), has a care alarm which requires a telephone, and does not use broadband. A couple of days ago, I negotiated a calls only service from BT, due to start on the 11th, as Origin were raising the monthly debit by an unreasonable apount. Origin have cut off her telephone on the 1st of the month, leaving her phoneless, until BT are able to sort it out on a 'welfare case' basis. Customer service at Origin were very unhelpful. Do not use this company!

So I pay £17.99 a month for 30 days of WiFi, but the router literally only works for like 5 days, I say work... I can’t even run one phone of this stupid ‘broadband’ if it’s even worth that name. It’s quite funny though. They never seem to be able to pick up the phone within 3 hours but damn they take that money with 2 minutes of the day it’s due (yes they literally took the money out at 00:02) robbing bastards, I never even consented to direct debit which makes matters 2x worse. Please, nobody use this excuse of a WiFi provider. I am also a college student, with a college that prefers me to work at home/if possible. Please everyone. DO NOT BUY.

When I was sold this package which still isn’t working I was told as i have the correct line into my property no engineers need to be in my property , I was assured the router was plug and play and it would be delivered on the Thursday so I took the day off lost a days pay , I was at work the following week when my phone rang “ey up I’m outside tha house I’ve cime to install your phone line !!! On the day the router was meant to arrive I stayed in all day only to be told that they had missed the first line of my address off so it went back to the depo, when I plugged in the router after tracking it down it wouldn’t work I spent the next 4 hrs either in hold or constantly being told by a series of people to turn it in and off I was finally told someone would ring me back by 530 which they never did still not working I’ve never dealt with such a shambolic out fit beware

AVOID!!! Worst company ever! They should be sued for failing to provide the basics obligations of their contract. Honestly, they should not be allowed to operate in this country. I have to ring them on a nearly weekly basis to report I have no internet connection, waiting times to speak to someone are from 1 hour and 30 mins upwards, they just don't care about their clients and the low quality services they provide, and they have ridiculous charges if you want to exit early out of their contract even though it's their fault they can't provide the services that they advertise for. If you care about your sanity, choose a different company. They don't even deserve a star.

I have given them 1 stars because I cant give zero.
My internet connection has been terrible from day one, I complained to the company, but these complaints were closed by Origin without my agreement. I work aborad and cannot take telephone call when I am away, this is the only way origin will communicate with you, they will never put anything in an email.
Now 18 months down the line they say I owe them over £100 going back to last year. I have not heard anything about this prior to this. I have been abroad work and because I have not paid this outstanding amount they have cut my broadband off within 30 days of informing me I owe this money. My bills have always been paid ontime by direct debit.
Technical support is now only available during working hours and when you do call you end up on hold for at least 30 minutes. When you do manage to speak to someone they speak over the top of you, they do not listen to what you are saying, everything is very scripted.

Whatever you do keep away from Origin Broadband the connect is so intermittant and the customer service a complete joke. These are without doubt the worst company I have every dealt with.

My Average download speed is less that 1mb/s (not 20-30mb/s as advertised) and subsequently I will die of starvation whilst waiting the proposed 64 hours for a 50gb installation on my console which by the way is a very average size download for a console. Origin broadband isn't far the most ridiculous excuse of an internet service provider within the entire universe.

Awful service right from the start. I initially paid them for the service on the 12th January. Its over 2 months later & I still don't have broadband! There's always one issue after another. From being misinformed of needing to be at the property for the technician to the router not working and being told it's faulty and another 1 will be sent out and then a week later - no router. I ring up to ask when it'll be delivered and they tell me the order was cancelled & I wasn't even told! I'm still waiting for it to be resolved with no date set for it to be fixed & I'm expected to take another day off work to be here in case the technician needs to come back into the property. Awful service - I would not recommend

Origin Broadband deserve zero stars. I paid 18 months upfront a year ago to receive a discount. There is no reason why Origin should be taking any further money from my bank account but nonetheless, they fraudulently have taken different sums of money which make no sense at random times of the year. When I call to try and resolve the issue, there is never anyone who has authority to do anything available to actually talk directly to me. I am always told I can be assured the money will be refunded and it won't happen again but it does. I have also repeatedly been told when I call and ask to speak to someone with more authority that I will get a call back, and I never do. I have chased for months now. I am still owed 2 wrongfully charged bills to be refunded. I spoke to a manager last week and he said he would deal with it personally and send me an e-mail later that day to confirm. I told him I didn't even believe him because of the history, but he assured, yet he didn't follow through. I was told by their complaints department that the only way I can make sure they don't continue to take money is to call my bank and block them. I've never ever received such bad service and been so outraged with a company. They are stealing money and they shouldn't be able to continue running a scam of a business.

    THE WORST COMPANY EVER.
yes prices are usually cheap but your time and energy spent chasing them just isn’t worth it.
You’ll need to phone at least ten times with issues throughout the year. No one knows their rear From their elbow. Each call you’ll be put on hold for 20 mins. Each person will have a different answer. I’ve had FOUR people confirm things to me & in writing so I do not have to argue with more people but then, hey, two others say they are wrong.
Billing is never right. Broadband speed is horrific.
Seriously don’t even think about joining this company.

I have only been with Origin for 2 and half months or so. When I first spoke to a representative, he told me that the Internet would be free for a year, so all I would have to pay would be £19.99 for the line rental and that would be all, so just to be sure I said,

"Now let me get this clear, I just pay £19.99 and the Internet is free; with no surprise extra charges like £30 for this and £40 for that?"

    He replied,

"No, no no! Trust me! Just the £19.99 and that's it! No extra charges...honest!"

"Ok...I hope your telling the truth cause I haven't got money to throw around!"

Anyway, in that time, I have already had one charge of £27 then I checked how much my by next bill would be... £49!!! So I rang up to query it, as clearly, I had been deceived just as I had feared! It took over an hour to answer the phone!! My boyfriend and I had to have shifts!!
When they finally did answer, she then explained that they took payment for March as I had started my service part way in the middle of a month and also I have to pay for June and July in advance!! So I said if I make a payment now, of £19.99 that should leave me with what? Would you beilive she STILL found a way to tell me I still owe £49 pounds!!

So that payment was just two weeks ago date today 10/05/17 May. Would you belive they have already taken £46 for June and July!!! I wasn't expecting them to take a payment until the next month, but here they are already taking money WAY TOO EARLY!! As it stands, I have paid way more money than I have had the service for which can't be right!
I'm begining to feel as though I'm being conned here.
My boyfriend is going to look into it...he use to be a Barrister!

I really do not recommend anyone joining due to the lies I was told on joining and being told to make payments WAY TOO EARLY. The payments taken has really inconvenienced me financially!!

Dreadful! Avoid at all costs. Set up in February and have ongoing issues with:
    - them sending engineers without telling me and trying to charge me for missed appointments
    - takes hours to talk to anyone
    - really slow speed
    - failed to tell Sky I was joining them to take over the line, resulted in me overpaying for two services and now I am out of pocket because of their mistakes

I've been without internet for nearly a week now. Customer services are friendly when you get through, but no-one seems to be able to provide me an answer as to why my phone line suddenly disappeared. Something about BT OpenReach? But at the end of the day I'm paying for broadband that they're not providing, and when it did work I noticed a significant drop in speed. I used to be with TalkTalk and despite their bad reviews, never really had a problem with them. I switched to Origin to save money, but I wish I'd spent a few pounds more a month for a better service with someone else. Would not recommend.

Hand on my heart, the worst broadband I have ever experienced in my life. Not only is it the slowest, but also the most unreliable and inconsistent broadband available. I promise you if you waste your money on this junk you will regret it massively. Minimum 25/30 times a day you will loose all access to the internet, you phone customer services and because you are receiving the download speed you pay for there’s pretty much nothing they can do. I assure you, get this broadband, you’ll regret it.

Buyers beware. I had a perfectly working phone like, run by EE for the last two hours, but it transpired that Origin had trouble taking over this line. That started a two-month saga back and forth between their pedestrian customer service.

I was told an Openreach engineer would come over to verify that I indeed had working line. He, to my face, confirmed that I did (obviously as I was being serviced by EE) but that he had been requested to change the line/phone number at the cabinet. This all happened without my permission.

Not only was I subsequently charged for this engineer visit (when I was told that I would be refunded if the existence of the line was verified), but EE charged me for an exra month because I in effect had two lines! I had to ring them up to cancel it myself.

That means I'm about 75 quid out of pockect, and have been offered a paltry £25 credit. Terrible, terrible company.

    --DO NOT GO WITH ORIGIN--
I know you're looking at their prices and thinking yeah that's one of the best deals but trust me, if you value your sanity go with someone more established. For students I can highly recommend Glide. We had pretty good internet throughout the year and although like any other good provider there were frustrating times, I can't fault their internet speed/reliability

I have been in contract with Origin for almost exactly one year. Now scouting around to find an alternative or upgrade my package with Origin.

So many ISP's now have terrible reviews it is very difficult making a decision.

I was thinking of moving over to Plusnet but that also has terrible reviews no better than TalkTalk whom I was with before Origin, now that was a bad service and came away from them with relief.

Value for money is the biggest factor for most of us as it is very expensive now just to have the internet since dial up days, forced to pay exorbitant prices for line rental just to be able to receive internet at all.

Origin gave the wrong router log in information when I signed up to them, I went live on schedule, but because of the wrong router info waited needlessly for a week, had to call them and they talked me through setting up the router. Customer service was helpful and courteous, no complaints there, have not needed to call them at all since set up. It would surely be better to give a small guide with the router on how to set it up and with the correct information, yes?

I have had no problems with Origin, it does however loose connection at least once a day, randomly, but it does only last for a few seconds up to one minute only, TalkTalk lost connection endlessly where it became so frustrating I wanted to throw the router out the window, so very much a vast improvement, I know it should not cut off at all but I can handle a few seconds a day in comparison.
The worst issue I have with Origin in an overall reliable service is the terrible speeds, it states no throttling under any circumstance, but it does, we get 900kbs down at best to be shared, it often drops to a mere 15kbs if you go where they don't like you to go.
Honesty is fast becoming a myth on this planet!

I would recommend Origin because it is more stable than 'others', for better shareable speeds the package needs to be upgraded, it's not the cheapest either on a limited budget, but it look like they are all becoming quite expensive in the UK now, business loves to rob the Brits because the Brits just put up with everything because choice is no longer choice but a profit margin obtained from our pockets.

So now I must decide, Hyperoptic looks good, unfortunately I need a phone line for now so will look at them in the future.

Origin hide their expired contract fee's on package information until you purchase so could end up paying more than you are 'led' to think. I will probably stay with Origin and upgrade to fibre to boost the speed, I would have gone to Plusnet but the reviews have put me off.

Was forced over to Origin from SEE after years of grood and reliable service this literally changed over night. As from the switch over date service slowed and became un relaible dropping out for a few hours every couple of days and eventually finally dropping out for whole days. The call customer service center is useless and I guess very under staffed and I would regually sit in a quese fo 30-40 minutes and move one or two places in that time. Whilst being insulted by the continous "your call is important to us". Three months in an I gave up. I called them and gave 30 days notice to terminate the serice and was provided a date. I am still being invoiced and charged six weeks after termination. They are part of the TalkTalk group so I shouldn't be supprised about any of this, shame they haven't changed in the last 10 years. Stear as far clear from this clowns as possible.

Wow I am staggered at the appalling service from Origin.
I first alerted them to drop outs/instability issues in November and they did nothing for over a month. They called me whilst I was away to say the problem was finally resolved but when I got home I had no connection at all.
I have been lied to, left without connection over Xmas, been on hold for over an hour on multiple occasions and have not received answers to my emails or phone calls.
DO NOT USE this company at any time as you WILL NOT receive a broadband connection but will receive a lot of grey hairs trying to put things right

A dreadful service provider. I am frequently without internet access. My router came unconfigured. I have had to manually reset the settings for my router 3 times in 6 months. I was on hold for 45 minutes, then was cut off instead of transferred to another department. I was then on hold for a further 50 minutes, trying to get through to someone. I have been overcharged, told i would receive a refund, but am still waiting for it, 4 months later. I am disgusted by the cancellation policy - pay the full balance of the fixed term (i asked for, and was told i had signed up for, a rolling contract, not a fixed term) and £25 extra for the priviledge. When I enquired whether i was better off leaving the contract to run out (monthly payments instead of an immediate lump sum and to avoid the cancellation fee), I was told that any calls made from this address for the remainder of my contract would be charged to me, regardless of the new occupier changing provider. I am appalled by this shambolic business. I would strongly advise you to avoid origin broadband.

Total scum would be the nicest thing I could say about these clowns. Didn't provide me with a service, wouldn't listen to anything I said but want me to pay £233 to leave when I got nothing from them. They try to intimidate you into paying and I'd say they do it a lot.

Exceptionally poor service. Ineffective at dealing with slow speeds (at 6-7mbps vs. advertised 38mbps every single day). At this point I have endured a month of brick wall responses. If you are thinking of dealing with this provider, move along as they are pathetically poor.

Dont touch this company if you have any sense. I cancelled my old provider and rang these clowns who told me I could keep my old number I've had for around 10 years. I give them a month to get it all sorted before my business reopened due to covid but 2 days before opening I had to ring them a number of times before being told I no longer had my old number and I couldnt have it. 2 days before I could get a so called manager to ring and talk crap. Day of opening no phone line no internet for card machine so losing a lot of money through this clown company. Told on friday theres a fault with your line now we need to get an engineer by Tuesday, today is wednesday still no phone or internet. Trying to get through now to cancel everything. Bunch of amateurs
