Experienced some major hick-ups during the set-up process, firstly, there was no confirmation of service switching and a set-up date (resolved by messaging via facebook), secondly they didn't send me a password to connect to my router, so while I had full connection, I had no way of actually using the internet. Having said that, after 30 minutes on hold I got connected to a lovely bloke on their tech team who immediately issued me with a password. A speed test shows that it is well below what was advertised, but I see absolutely no difference between Origin and my old provider, so as long as I can browse and stream (which I can without any issues), I am a happy customer.

Just signed up for an extension to my contract. I have been pleasantly surprised by the service, price and quality and on price they beat BT hands down! Their staff are excellent and keen to help. I've had a year with them now and I am surprised by the number of negative reviews on this site. Good on yer Origin!

I have been with Origin for 14 months so though I should update my earlier scathing review.

Broadband speed is still good and has always been at the top end, or above, of the promised speed. Reliability has also been good. On both of these issues Origin have been better than previous providers BT & Post Office.

On customer service (excluding billing), they have improved considerably. The difficulties getting through to them have gone away and the responses have been okay.

On the billing they re still a confusing mess, although they have never actually overcharged me. They will send you an email stating that there is a bill available an quoting the amount. This is occasionally wrong (4 times in 14 months), but they seem to get it sorted out without prompting and if you log in a few days later they have replaced the bill with a correct one. This can cause extra confusion as they seem to replace the original bill having completely deleted the original, so when you ring them up quoting a copy of the bill (that you had the foresight to save) a few days later, the customer service person seems to have no knowledge of the original document and only know about the replacement. If you are going to ring up and complain, get a new copy immediately before ringing them as the problem may have been sorted.

Overall recommended, but only if you have the patience to cope with the admin.

Finally, by way of indication of confidence, I recommended to my daughter to change to Origin (don't believe the web comments about the £25 introduction bonus as there seems to be no way to claim it) and she is now happy, but had to endure two installation delays, one the fault of Origin (you DO have to be at home on go-live day, even if they ell you you don't) and the other the fault of Openreach. Plus, of course, the second bill is incorrect!

Signing up with Origin was easy online. However still no router a couple of days before "switch-over" day. However, a quick call (ditch the Brian Blessed menu voice please!) got all-systems go and switch over was seamless. Great responsive service. However, I note the line does drop frequently (only for a few minutes several times per day) which didn't happen with previous ISP. Great job tho, well done and great value BB.

    Speed = good
    Reliability = good
    Customer service = Meh...

There is an option to pay your bill if your debit gets missed, DO NOT USE IT! if you do, then a few days later (when you have funds to clear the missed debit) they take the bill again. and when you ask them to give it back "It will take 30 days"... by which time your next bill is due, this has happened to me twice now, DO NOT MANUALLY PAY ON THE SITE, just let them keep trying until you have funds available because you will not get the money back.

Left S k y due to price increase and joined Origin. Painless transition for me but I can see massive problem if it was for my mum. Decent download speed on the 1st day but since the 3rd day it was becoming unbearably slow (1.5-2Mb but I should get 7Mb). Collected wired-connection speedtest results from both BTWholesale and S p e e d t e s t for the entire 2 weeks, and explained it to the techSupport (FYI, wait time 40min but only talked for 8min). They then raised my usage profile and now I am getting close to 5Mb. Not quite 7Mbps but I am happy overall. Worthwhile to collect those speed results and the tech would help greatly when they have all the needed info.

I have been in contract with Origin for almost exactly one year. Now scouting around to find an alternative or upgrade my package with Origin.

So many ISP's now have terrible reviews it is very difficult making a decision.

I was thinking of moving over to Plusnet but that also has terrible reviews no better than TalkTalk whom I was with before Origin, now that was a bad service and came away from them with relief.

Value for money is the biggest factor for most of us as it is very expensive now just to have the internet since dial up days, forced to pay exorbitant prices for line rental just to be able to receive internet at all.

Origin gave the wrong router log in information when I signed up to them, I went live on schedule, but because of the wrong router info waited needlessly for a week, had to call them and they talked me through setting up the router. Customer service was helpful and courteous, no complaints there, have not needed to call them at all since set up. It would surely be better to give a small guide with the router on how to set it up and with the correct information, yes?

I have had no problems with Origin, it does however loose connection at least once a day, randomly, but it does only last for a few seconds up to one minute only, TalkTalk lost connection endlessly where it became so frustrating I wanted to throw the router out the window, so very much a vast improvement, I know it should not cut off at all but I can handle a few seconds a day in comparison.
The worst issue I have with Origin in an overall reliable service is the terrible speeds, it states no throttling under any circumstance, but it does, we get 900kbs down at best to be shared, it often drops to a mere 15kbs if you go where they don't like you to go.
Honesty is fast becoming a myth on this planet!

I would recommend Origin because it is more stable than 'others', for better shareable speeds the package needs to be upgraded, it's not the cheapest either on a limited budget, but it look like they are all becoming quite expensive in the UK now, business loves to rob the Brits because the Brits just put up with everything because choice is no longer choice but a profit margin obtained from our pockets.

So now I must decide, Hyperoptic looks good, unfortunately I need a phone line for now so will look at them in the future.

Origin hide their expired contract fee's on package information until you purchase so could end up paying more than you are 'led' to think. I will probably stay with Origin and upgrade to fibre to boost the speed, I would have gone to Plusnet but the reviews have put me off.

We switched to this company on March 2016 and, initially, they were quite good. They picked up calls in less than 2 minutes and, despite we wanted a Fibre connection, they offered us a temporary DSL until fibre was available in our area.

We paid 25£ installation fee and they sent us a standard DSL router, very basic and capable to connect no more than 3 devices all together. The average speed was 3Mbps so we could not navigate or watch videos, anyway they offered that connection for free.

After various calls and one-month wait, they arranged an appointment for fibre installation but the engineer did not show up so they arranged a new one. This time the engineer came and installed the fibre but the connection was very bad for the first three months. Further to that, we have an average 64Mbps download speed.

Last year we had an issue as the Council cut our connection to the fibre cabinet during some road works. We spent 10 days on the phone hearing lies from them and treated them to start a legal action before they finally sent an engineer. The engineer said to us: 'It is a 5 minutes work and if your company had sent us on that day, we could had fixed it on that day'. As you can imagine, we have been very upset to acknowledge this.

On August this year, our connection dropped while we were on holiday, leaving hour house exposed to burglars etc. as the security cameras could not connect to the internet. I had to spent 93 minutes on the phone to try to explain there was an external fault and, when finally the customer service answered, they denied this and the call dropped. I then started messaging them on social media end email and I got different ambiguous answers. At the end, they admitted the fault was external and fixed it.

I think this company may be good, if only they were more customer focused. No one want to spend 1 hours on the phone without being able to resolve any issue. They do not reply to emails. They do not acknowledge complaints and even receiving an answer on social media has become impossible.

I think they should not be allowed to trade until they will resolve this.

I'm on a low income so decided to try out the £10pm deal. Signing up online was simple. I also got text messages telling me when the router would be delivered plus and installation date by email (tech didn't need to come into my house).

Just swapped routers on installation day. Phone line worked fine but I had no internet connection. So called Origin and the customer service girl tried to sort out problem but with no luck. The techs there needed to have a look. I was in a call queue to them but was cut off 2/3 times (I think the techs there were trying to get the call queue down so did this deliberately!I used to work in a call centre). However when I did get through tech sorted out in seconds.

All working fine, its not the fastest but its much the same as Talk Talk my previous supplier. Worth it for the cheaper price, though worried this may increase next year.

I've had origin broadband for about 4 months now. My initial experience was terrible and I had no broadband for over a month, this was partly the fault of BT (openreach) and partly the fault of origin. They clearly need better training of staff to deal with faults and a lot more people to answer calls. In my view a lot of the issues are to do with the routers they send out, they sent me two, neither worked, I ended up using my old one from my previous ISP. This worked but as others have pointed out the line kept dropping. I eventually got a working router from origin and this did improve things and I have had no line drops now. I actually changed the settings in the router to protorise stability of the line over performance. My origin line is on the Vodafone network and I suspect the issues others are having with line drops are related to Miss configured routers (Vodafone use different default settings to most ISPs). If you are experiencing line drops I would advise you to phone origin and check your router settings. I would also advise origin to fix the issues they are having with routers being sent out dead and invest in a proper router with fixed firmware and roll out updates and fixes remotely like all other ISPs. It's a shame and they seems to have a lot of trouble getting people connected but once you are connected and correctly set up it seems fine. The price is great if you just want basic adsl, I would be happy to pay an extra £1 a month to fix the issues I have had. They are still cheaper then the standard rate of all other ISPs and I hate switching it's too much hassle.

I have no issue with the broadband whatsoever. It's reliable and fast enough to stream tv and videos while still offering internet to everyone else in the house. I bought the upfront annual plan but there is now an issue with them trying to bill me for additional costs. I am certain it is an admin error on their part but I just cannot get through to their customer service team to sort it out. I've spent in excess of 5 hours trying to get through to them. It's very frustrating and makes you wonder what sort of employer they are (under resourced?).

It's a shame because it is so refreshing to have really good internet backed up by a UK based call centre.

Contract ending. Rang to update package gave account name address etc & they couldn't find my account despite being a customer for years & paying the bills. Online no better doesn't recognise my account useless customer service waste of a call. This has never happened before obviously being taken over by another company & prices have shot up to £48 for phone & broadband that is not happening but try sorting it out. Cheapest option 3 but thats still £35. Frustrating & definitely not easy to do. Got a letter with all my details which are correct which makes me wonder why can my account not be found!

We’ve been customers here for over 3 years and haven’t seen such humiliation and depression when it comes to customer service, honestly I’ve been on the phone with other companies that took a long time to answer but NOT as long as Origin Broadband takes to pick up the phone. The internet is great but I’m sorry I honestly cant believe that for a company as big as yours with all those phones and yet people are still waiting in line for 1 hour or 1.5 just to say that my broadband isn’t working and we’ve paid everything in full and they told us that it would take approximately 1 hour to work, btw WE GOT EXAMS.

OK... so here it is ive read reviews of other people, now i started building pcs when windows 95 was released im very tech savvy and know what im on about with speeds and service connections etc.

Now id been a virgin customer for years and there speeds are much better but there always ramping up prices and it was winding me up that iud been on moneysavingexperts site at the time and came across 'originbroadband' now i opted to pay 2 years upfront at the time i got that for just under £300 pounds all in works out at 12.50 a month in my case but its already paid and i never get any bills, now first thing i did was unplugged my actual home phone i dont use it and it started ringing before id ghiven out its number so i assumed it was sales or whatever but anyway i ONLY plug my home phone in if i want to make a phone call from it and that would be a free phone number only as i like not ever having any bills, but have a good mobile contract so my calls are done on my mobile anyway, now origin uses bt systems in actuality they all share its infrastructures and networks unless were talking cable and fibre optic, you are supplied with a free router but a cat 5 ethernet cable you want to buy a cat 6/7/8 (6) will be cheapest and fine ethernet cable (ebay?) even asda ethernet cables will be cat 5, cat 5 is terrible but any free ethernet cable you will get you can assume will be cat 5, if you hardwire your connection via ethernet your speed will be faster and more reliable and you can get 10m 20m cables and such, also buy a better microfilter to squeeze a little more juice out of that phone line again (ebay?) so all this up to 17mb jargon you here, this translated into a real typical download speed of 0.7gb per second im talking you know torrents or whatever expect to be hitting 0.7gb real download speed of these files again you get what you pay for, now if i run an actual speed test on my line it tells me my my download speed is 7gb per second so you may be thinking well why am i getting 10% of this in real terms then? well the answer is and i was clued into this by virgin media a long time ago and the respons was at that time as i was on about 20gb speed with them '20gb is your container speed and youre real actual download torrent speed would be 10% of that which was why at that time i was recvieving 2gb per second download speeds, so this is omething to remmeber we can call this clever marketing to make things sound better than what they are but in summary 20gb=2gb 50gb=5gb and so on REMEMBER THIS,now im rating this 5 starts in overall satisfaction purely as i got what i paid for it does the job i require it was cheap and thats it.

For internet speed (great) customer service (****) i first began with them mist May, they got my order wrong & set me up with the downstairs flat. I could still connect to it as guy downstairs had moved out, but without any notification, they cut me off for 14 days then re-connected me, 6 days later i was issued my first bill of 17.99, was not happy & tried to sort out some sort of arrangement the screw up, i was given a free month to be added to my account but days later another 17.99 came out of my bank account for the next months bill. I complained & won 2 months line rental, its notw 30 days later & i still havent recived the 2 months line rental back, im getting pissed off with the sevice as it is. Will be making a indemnity claim to get my cash back & suggest that everyone else does the same.

Decent broadband service so far (after 3 months). I get the impression however they are very understaffed. Only had to phone on one occasion for an issue and took around 10 minutes to get help. The person who was helping was very good/helpful but ultimately unable to resolve the issue. Further technical help meant waiting an hour on the phone listening to music and still no answer so eventually gave up.

They also keep sending me monthly bills via email despite the fact that I paid the entire year in advance. When I called to inform of the error (about a 15 minute wait for an answer) was told it was a known issue and they were trying to resolve it. Same thing keeps happening however as I keep recieving bills each month.

Pros: Good value for money, good router, very easy to set up, reliable adsl service so far.
Cons: wait for 15-20 min every time you need them (billing and technical service onevtime each) I have the basic ADSL but I'm getting 3-5mb/s compared with 6-8 with plusnet my previous provider.

Check on your contact before you use the landline, I did not have landline in my contract, and I had to console my friend who's mother died, I had to pay an extra £149.55.
What can you say about such an under handed way to treat a customer these days I thought that practise wasn't used by companies who want to be seen to be using best practices.
When my contract is up I will move what an opportunist practice,JUST LIKE A THIEF, LOOKING FOR ANY OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE, I'M 72.

The speed is as advertised, currently 40+ mbs. However the router is abysmal. 4 times in 4 months the router has re-set itself, so no broadband. Customer services very slow to answer, although fabulous when connected. Enough is enough now.

    Positives:

Static IP without the ties and costs of being business broadband.

Brian Blessed voicing the support calling system.

    Negatives:

Lack of functionality and diversity for communications on the customer dashboard.

Took 20 days to arrange Openreach appointment and failed to deliver router on go live time despite chasing before hand, managed to configure old ISP hardware to use as a work-around. Had support fob us off with the classic "It'll be there tomorrow" nonsense.

Not terribly impressed so far, we'll see how they get on closer to the cool off expirey.

I’ve been with Origin for 3 years now. I love the fact their call centre is in Doncaster and is manned by really nice people. What really lets the service down though is that to resolve issues, you need to hardwire link to the router. We’re all Apple at home and my work laptop can’t be hardwire linked. I’m not hugely IT literate so unless one of my teenagers is home, I’m stranded.

I really hope Origin get their act together because I will always support UK based and manned companies.

I have just left Origin after one year contract. They are cheaper than most and living where I do we only have standard broadband, no cable. At first the speed seemed reasonable, but overtime it kept cutting out. The network checks where always OK. Couldn't get to the bottom of it and started to think it maybe the router and buy a better one. However, at the year of contract I nearly renewed but was confused by the agent I spoke to about the future billing and so decided to move onto another supplier getting a new router.
Although a few £s a month more since changing the broadband from Origin it has improved substantially and does not cut out to date with the new supplier. So it was something to do with the network or router.
My concern over Origin was despite moving away from them they have continued to bill for the service and it took me to contact them for a hour to get resolved. Would I use them again, maybe if the price is right and can be convinced of improved customer service

Was quite happy when I signed up the advisor I spoke to was quite helpful...
Untill I had an unexpected payment that was taken out which left me in overdraft.
When I called to speak to an advisor about this problem, she told me I couldn't get the payment back as it was second half of the 'set up fee' wasn't told that there was a set up fee else I woudlnt of signed up and was also told that it's because they don't do credit checks.
Again on terms and conditions it states they do credit checks and that they're aren't any hidden charges.
Now awaiting to speak to a manager because nobody was available.
They was also going to listen to the initial signing up call to see what was said.
Annoyed is a bit of an understatement right now.!.

To all future users READ THE REVIEWS Customer Service is terrible hours will be spent listening to terrible music. You have no idea how long you will be on hold 30mins will be good! Have found a solution to this problem, if you press option 1 for sales the phone will be answered immediately ask for the salesman who took your order. If you can't get him ask for help from the sales staff, some will try to put you over to customer service - don't bother ring back again as some sales staff are very helpful others are not.I've been told their management are in a meeting to try and sort this out - taken long enough ! How ever the phone & broadband have been good. I left talk/talk as i was fed up with overseas call centers only to find out how hard it was to speak to a uk call centre. Hope the above is of help for others - it worked for me. Having spent a week on phone hold doing the above i resolved my admin questions in a couple of ticks.

I recently upgraded my package to increase the connection speed and this necessitated a new router.

Unfortunately since the new router was installed, the service has deteriorated markedly which is annoying bearing in mind the whole purpose of upgrading was to increase the connection speed.

It took Origin over a month to provide the new router and upgrade the speed but sadly reliability since then has deteriorated. We await an engineer's visit which is tomorrow as they say they have found a fault near our property. I will say in any case though, that although the staff are incredibly helpful when we speak to them by telephone, the administration at Origin is appallingly inefficient, as illustrated by the length of time taken from order to upgrade. As for the time taken to get through on the phone - it's ridiculous. Always a minimum of 20 minutes and often longer. And the music whilst you are hold is ear-shatteringly awful! About 5 dreadful songs repeated over and over again - which have not been changed for at least 3 years!

I am submitting reviews to warn people off this company due to appalling level of service. Don't let the cheap price fool you if you have a problem your stuck with it as its virtually impossible to get through to technical support. I have had my land line broken for 4 days now and tried every day multiple times upto 20 minutes on my mobile just waiting in a queue with no idea where I am in the queue. No announcements just a continual loop of music. The customer service and sales pick up straight away as us us but cannot even pass details of your problem to tech team they just put you back in the never ending queue. Steer clear its not worth it

I am now in my third year with Origin. My experience has been mixed, I try to avoid all contact with the accounts dept as they never follow up on requests for genuine refunds. I also had slow speed and drop outs which I finally resolved myself by downloading and installing the latest firmware from Asus for the DSL-N16 router. Don't rely on the automatated update in the router software as it does not recognise the latest update (December 2018). I hope this helps others frustrated with their speed and reliability. Good luck.

Service was OK. On terminating contract sent me a bill for >£200 for termination of contract even though the fixed term had expired.

Internet was terrible was only 0.9 speed and constant drop in connection but since the update on their router it's much better (still only 1.8 speed) and drop in connection has stopped still I only paid 154 pound for the year upfront guess you get what you pay for

When I joined Origin, in October 2016, they were the best ISP I had ever dealt with, and one of the best companies at all I had ever done business with. That's because their offer was reasonable and clear, and there were no surprises afterwards. Most importantly, whenever I had a question, I could immediately get in touch with a knowledgeable person, either by email or chat, who would give sensible answers to all questions and solve all problems (which were rather trivial).

A month ago, in March of 2017, when I wanted to look at my account online, I discovered that Origin had turned into one of the worst companies I have ever done business with. I couldn't log into my account (and so couldn't see my bill, which included charges for phone calls), and when I asked to have a new password emailed the website said this had been done (I tried several times), but nothing arrived in my inbox (or spam).

When I tried to contact Origin they would neither respond to emails nor on their chat. When I called I got to talk to people who told me they would have this fixed, and an email sent to me so I could access my account again, but this never happened, even though I called at least three times.

Something very bad has happened to Origin, although I have no idea what, or why ...

I've been with Origin since early 2019. At that time they were a great company. I've always had a speedy internet connection, and usually get close to max 78mbit/s down and 20mbit/s up. The router does occsaionally seem to drop the connection, but usually in the middle of the night (probably firmware updates), and they sent me a new one a few months back completely free which I've not installed yet.

At some point in the last six months though, something's gone very wrong. Customer service chat and email addresses have been removed from the website, so you have to ring a call centre instead. We were not notified of this. They don't know anything there and can't help. There's no longer any account login, and their postcode/account checker simply doesn't work - it always tells you it can't find your details. On the call I was told the website was "low" - whatever that means - and that we'd receive an update about it in January. I'm not holding my breath, it seems very odd to take down the live service. If they're developing a new backend it'd be done in a dev environment before seamlessly rolling out to production... I'd encourage everyone to avoid Origin until they've actually sorted out their systems.

A real shame to see the downfall of a company which was so good and had great service when I joined five years ago.
